2 questions about uninstalling

I am going to uninstall the virus protection I have and I'm changing to something else. Boy, is my ignorance going to show up now......I know I have to uninstall the old one first but isn't there a chance of a virus invading my computer before I get the next one downloaded?

And if you want to uninstall something how do you know if something else that you want to keep isn't going to be deleted also? Isn't there more than one thing in a folder? (I think I need to find some classes to take so I'm not quite this ignorant.) Anyone know of a really easy book to help understand all this stuff?

To avoid the chance of being infected while you swap anti virus programs is very easy to accomplish. Decide which program you want and download it, saving it to a folder. I keep a folder called Utilities where all this stuff goes.

Then you disconnect the internet connection, go to Add/Remove programs and remove the current anti virus. Now install the new program and set it to run. I expect a reboot might be necessary but it will tell you. Once you have the new anti virus running connect to the internet again and immediately go to the web site to update to the latest anti virus definitions.

Regarding your fear of removing anything other than the anti virus program, that will not happen because your anti virus program will be set up in it's own folder. If you have AVG now and also AVG anti malware, then yes, they are in the same folder but if there are any shared files there (doubtful) you will be asked if you want to remove or keep that particular file.

If you want to view your folders at any time just right click on the Start button then click Explore. Now you have a split screen. Click on anything in the left side and the contents of that folder appear in the right side. Click any plus signs on the left side to cause all the sub folders to drop down under the highlighted folder.

Yes they should open just fine in Sumatra. And if they should be something special that only adobe can view(rare).. you can reinstall adobe reader,,,, .. new version out today. Firefox I saw a message board todays new standard version reads PDF too. So if you use firefox.. you don't really need adobe or Sumatra or anybodys for basic PDF's.

Hi Helen. Let's see if I can thumb-type this before my coffee gets cold.... First, if you're not using it already, download Opera browser from Google Playstore. It's the only browser with a decent text flow feature so you can pinch zoom and it will resize the screen. Unless Chrome has seen the light. Then login as usual. When you do, you'll see your forum ID on the topmost right-hand corner. Tap that and it will load a screen with a list of options. Tap "Your Houzz" and this brings you to the screen where you see different tabs---ideabooks, bookmarks, activity, etc. "Activity" is the tab you want so tap that. That shows discussions you've commented on. Above the list of discussions there is a drop-down menu that allows you to sort the list according to different criteria---your comment, threads you started, etc. So just tap the option you want. As for photo, just tap the camera icon at the bottom of the comment field right above the green bar that says "submit". If your browser is allowed to take photos, it will launch the phone camera. If not, it will launch the gallery app where you can select photos.

"fused together" sounds bad. Maybe you need to start by replacing the shutoff valves? (I've found, more often than not, in old houses the shutoff valves are corroded and no longer functional. I just assume now tthey will need replacing and am pleasantly surprised when that turns out not to be the case.)
