Unable to open .eml files

I cannot open .eml files. I am trying to open tutorial supplies in that format. I have Windows 7 and use Windows Live Mail. Nothing I seem to do works. I do hope you can help me. I also use my favorite PSPX. Many thanks. Charlene

This page (EML files) mentions Outlook Express instead of Windows Live mail but it might help.

You are right, it is a great article. I wish I had Outlook Express. I need to know how to open them in Windows Live Mail. Surely there is a way.

You're not alone, Penny. When Adelphia service was taken over by Time Warner, I had incredible problems, with no service for big parts of the day on a regular basis. My business depends on reliable internet connection for not only email, and internet access but to send and receive large drawing files. My phone service is also through the internet so when the cable goes down, I am dead in the water. (Nothing to do but go out and work in the garden.) I just moved over the last few weeks and thought I was going to be in trouble since there is no cable out in this remote part of the Adirondacks, but I was surprised that high-speed DSL was available and I find the connection speed to be acceptable, even for VOIP. And it hasn't gone down even once since I've been here. Of course, you can't watch Wheel Of Torture and other mindless TV junk over the DSL line. Wayne

AR is way too much of a resource hog and is terribly difficult to remove if so desired. Stick with Foxit. During the installation you will be asked if you want Foxit to be the default for .pdf files. Approve the request. Be aware of the toolbar offer. Don't worry about the disclaimer that some functions may not work without the installation of the toolbar. For the general user everything you need will continue to work just fine. DA

A couple of other things have happened, too. All of a sudden I lost my sound, again, and I get a message saying "Found new Hardware" but it can't find a driver to install. Then my printer stopped printing and I get a message saying "Could not find Post Script Interpreter defined in your settings. Check your settings under Advance options.... applications." Has my computer been fried or is it something I've done and can be fixed? I did a restore system yesterday back two weeks but it's still not right. Again, thanks in advance.

I suggest, that you might want to make some folders that are separate to store some of that mail in, because, that is way too many messages stored in the inbox and that was why you were having the problem. I never store any messages in my inbox. I either delete them, once I have read, or answered them, or if it is something that I do want to keep, I put it in a folder with that persons name (if it is someone I hear from regularly), or in a folder called saved. You are actually lucky, that it just caused a problem with deleting, because, I have seen many times, where the mail wouldnt even open, until the dbx was removed from the outlook express folder. Think its hold down the Shift key (might be control key) then right click your .eml ,,, and it will have a context menu item that says ...Open with... then check the box to always open with.. find your Windows Live Mail, hopefully right there.

I have tried that. I am given the tutorial with a zipped material file. I click open, the material file opens but I can't get the material. This is a link to the site I am having trouble with.

I download a few tutorials and when I opened the zipped material file, it went into windows/temporary Internet Files/Content.IE5. I then dragged it to my desktop. I am running Win7 64bit with Windows live mail.

I believe that not being able to open .eml messages once outside of Outlook Express was one of the curses of the program.

I can't really recommend it since I just now installed it to test but:

may do what you want. I downloaded one of those tutorials(it had an "eml" extension) and opened it with EML-Viewer, giving me this:

Edit: By the way, tucows did try to slip an AVG toolbar/homepage etc. into the installer so maybe it would be better to get it directly from the vendor? http://www.nucleustechnologies.com/eml-viewer.html The only reason I did not was because I couldn't find the magic word "freeware" on the vendor site, on tucows I did. :)
