Unable to open .eml files

I cannot open .eml files. I am trying to open tutorial supplies in that format. I have Windows 7 and use Windows Live Mail. Nothing I seem to do works. I do hope you can help me. I also use my favorite PSPX. Many thanks. Charlene

This page (EML files) mentions Outlook Express instead of Windows Live mail but it might help.

You are right, it is a great article. I wish I had Outlook Express. I need to know how to open them in Windows Live Mail. Surely there is a way.

You're not alone, Penny. When Adelphia service was taken over by Time Warner, I had incredible problems, with no service for big parts of the day on a regular basis. My business depends on reliable internet connection for not only email, and internet access but to send and receive large drawing files. My phone service is also through the internet so when the cable goes down, I am dead in the water. (Nothing to do but go out and work in the garden.) I just moved over the last few weeks and thought I was going to be in trouble since there is no cable out in this remote part of the Adirondacks, but I was surprised that high-speed DSL was available and I find the connection speed to be acceptable, even for VOIP. And it hasn't gone down even once since I've been here. Of course, you can't watch Wheel Of Torture and other mindless TV junk over the DSL line. Wayne

No - I checked that. I have googled and found a few instances of this problem - and they all seem to relate to IE8. No real solutions, though some have seemed to correct it. I guess I can save the attachement and just open it from my desktop. Thanks for your input RC.

Now I've got it. When I tried before I took the Thunderbird image of the email with the picture incorporated. This could not be saved as a ".jpg". But, when I double clicked on the attachment icon, a new Thunderbird window was opened and it contained only the picture. When I right-clicked that image and picked [save as] the default format was .jpg. The immage thus obtained is clearly optimized for email, low quality resolution, 640x490 pixels, about 300K pixels. Nice for email, not so good for making prints from, albeit one of the 4x6" prints may be okay.

Personally, I'd probably try LibreOffice: You can get it here: https://www.libreoffice.org/ I know it'll open .docx files. I'm not sure about .lbl files but briefly testing (creating a test file with that extension), LibreOffice Writer is offered as a choice to open it on my system. . "Also does anyone know if you purchase Windows Word do you have to pay for it every year or is it good indefinitely?" I think it depends on whether you get it bundled with "Office 365" (which is by subscription) or get it by making a "one-time purchase". https://products.office.com/en-us/buy/office

Think its hold down the Shift key (might be control key) then right click your .eml ,,, and it will have a context menu item that says ...Open with... then check the box to always open with.. find your Windows Live Mail, hopefully right there.

I have tried that. I am given the tutorial with a zipped material file. I click open, the material file opens but I can't get the material. This is a link to the site I am having trouble with.

I download a few tutorials and when I opened the zipped material file, it went into windows/temporary Internet Files/Content.IE5. I then dragged it to my desktop. I am running Win7 64bit with Windows live mail.

I believe that not being able to open .eml messages once outside of Outlook Express was one of the curses of the program.

I can't really recommend it since I just now installed it to test but:

may do what you want. I downloaded one of those tutorials(it had an "eml" extension) and opened it with EML-Viewer, giving me this:

Edit: By the way, tucows did try to slip an AVG toolbar/homepage etc. into the installer so maybe it would be better to get it directly from the vendor? http://www.nucleustechnologies.com/eml-viewer.html The only reason I did not was because I couldn't find the magic word "freeware" on the vendor site, on tucows I did. :)
