I know it is early, and here in NY we are still very warm!! But I posted this for another forum, so I wanted to show you. I told you I got the red luminarc plates in Dollar Tree, and they had pkgs of 8 rings, covered in red or green fabric. So may things you can do with them, anything can be tied or wrapped around...so for 15 cents go wild..pinecone, candy cane, bow..

Anyway, here I took my white chargers, red mats and a plaid napkin. One has a Battenburg angel, the other just some gold berries from a spray.

I was thnking a black charger, cheap plastic one is fine, red plate, red plaid nap, or a plaid cloth with a solid napkin.

So for a dollar a plate...lots of possibilities!

Nice Kathleen! I like the placemat at an angle like that. May I ask where you got your white charger?

Mary, I got some a few years ago at Noritake, and never used them! Then with this forum...LOL, I saw some on clearance at Home Decorators.com, and I got 12. They were very reasonable, but heavy, made in Portugal. The ones I got from Noritake were 2 dollars each, and more delicate, but I only had 4 and the Noritake outlet I went to closed.
I used to find great things there...beautiful plates!

Its interesting that most of us seem to be in the same boat as far as family or visible friends go. It sure is a good thing we found each other here! I'm not sure how many of you discovered new interests as I did, or were already dishaholics and super holiday decorators. But this place literally changed my Life in those respects! I find it kind of funny that after turning 60, I got hooked on this dish and decor stuff like I did. But perhaps it was being the "right time, right place". Place being here obviously. A couple of years ago, when the Fibro worsened so much and I had to cut back on my dog showing, I sure needed other interests. Besides antiquing and Michaels, LOL. I use to do a lot of craft stuff, but even that has been put on hold. (I didn't mean to make my dog buddies sound like they had no other interests, all of them have busy and very varied lives. Just none are interested in dishes, or holiday decor beyond the 'normal') LOL. So the time I spent with them, was always dog-oriented entirely. Stumbling onto this place, thru those addictive stacked plates of Judith's, caused a major change in me tho. All for the better. Suddenly, not only do I have new interests, I have so many new friends! I can come here any time of day or night and have fun, or relax, or even feel like I still have an interesting Life. I'm no longer isolated (due to being housebound so often with the Fibro pain). Plus I discovered thrift shops and dollar stores, and fun shopping like that. Its as if a whole new world got opened up for me just when I needed it. I joke about you being my Invisible Friends, but the connection I feel with you makes me often forget we haven't met in Real Life. You are MORE visible than my local friends now! I certainly spend most of my time with you, LOL. In all seriousness, I don't know what I'd do without you (and my Garden Junk buddies, some who are here too). So I guess I can answer Patty's question with a resounding YES, my friends DO share my interests! Karen

hi2, I've long haunted antique malls and a big show here in the Fall. then there's eBay of course, but I don't get all that much off there any more. I've got around 300 Whippet/Greyhound statues in my collection. But there is sure a LOT on eBay. I look thru both greyhound and whippet listings almost every night just to pass the time when I can't sleep. Arthur Court stuff is lovely but usually more than I want to pay, like Fitz & Floyd. Luckily my BF is good about getting stuff for birthday and Xmas in these. Luvs, I figured some folks would cringe that I didn't get that pedestal plate properly redone, but if someone really wanted to, the paint could be removed and it still could be re-plated I'm sure. I'm not going to sell it tho, you're right about that. Just glad I can finally display it, sure was ugly before but a "must have" when I saw it. Never have I seen another like it either on eBay. The calendar plate came from an antique show I went to. Actually I bought it for a dear friend, much older than me, who was my "mentor" when I started in whippets and showing. She died at age 90. She was born in 1908 and loved the plate. I inherited her whippet things and so got the plate back. Also have an old mug with the same dog head on it, tho mug is orangy color and doesn't match plate at all as a set. Karen

Jim, does she have a nickname I could put to give her photo credit in our album? Or even just her first name? Karen - You can use Loolee for her photos. I noticed there is silverware in only one pic...there must be a reason? Kathleen - here's what she told me: Because I do the settings to store the dishes, not really for the setting. I did do my formal dining room table in a summery look with blue and white and shells and I put the sterling out. A dish-lover got to do...what a dish-lover got to do! Thanks Kathleen. I was just on the Ballard Design website and they have some nice clear ones with a beaded rim which I really liked....but at $29.50 a pc., I will keep looking! The white and clear ones are so versatile, they can be used with just about anything.

Yikes, Mary that is too much. I saw some really gorgeous chargers in Villeroy and Boch, I nearly choked!
I have silver, gold metal, gold glass, and white and a few black and white from Pier Oe. That's enough. A lady on another forum used Krylon spray on cheap plastic or glass from the dollar store. They came out great! I like the beaded ones too, but that's no going to happen!

Too expensive, Robby. You don't eat from them, and they are covered up, so the dollar store is a better buy for me...and spray paint, lol

I like your place setting. It is really festive and the addition of the plaid napkin really sets it off. But, then, I love plaids, so it is bound to excite.

The plates are beautiful. Are they clear glass?

Speaking of chargers, several years ago I found the gold and silver leafed chargers at Walmart for 78 cents apiece. What a find was that. The snooty stores sell them for as much as $10 apiece. Ross also had them for alot less. I have 12 of each for any occasion and I have used them alot. I don't know if you can still pick them up or not, but be on the lookout for them at bargain stores if they interest you.

Kathleen, beautiful red plates, they will just glow with candlelight too. I haven't had a chance to get to the Dollar store in weeks..I feel so deprived, it is a favorite shopping spot for me too, you can find some great things there.

Welcome Twinkledome, hope you will enjoy all the dish addicts on this forum. You certainly found a bargain on those chargers. I see them at Big Lots, usually four for $5.00. Your find was much better. Will look forward to seeing you on here often.

I got a box of 12 today at Linensnthings...with coupon came to 15. They are the same ones Michaels has for 3.99. They have, red, gold, silver. Spray with Krylon...I have an idea I am going to try..let you know if it works!

Beautiful tablesetting. I love the red plates. They would be great for many holidays. I don't think we have any Dollar Trees in the Northwest. I need to check out Linen and Things for the chargers. Thanks

grams, charger plates are the large plates you put under the dinner plate. They are just for decoration, you don't eat from them.
So in the last photo there is a white charger, then a red dinner plate.

Hobby Lobby also has a BUNCH of colors of chargers...I think they are about a dollar and half a piece, but often on sale for a dollar!
Beautiful setting and you know the Christmas plaid is my FAVorite!!!!

No Hobby Lobby here, Jay, and the dollar store here rarely has 12 unscratched of the same color...These came all packed in a handled box, with tissue in between. Still have time to return them if I find something I like better. though!
