Stylish Responsibility: Decorating with Eco-Friendly and Vintage Furnishings

stylish responsibility: (adj.) of mixing old and new, taking a transitional approach to decorating where you mix eco friendly furnishings and accessories with items you love, whether they are from the flea market, estate sales, travels, antique stores or family heirlooms.
So many items were made to weather multiple lifetimes so why shouldn't one of those be in your home until they move on to their next destination. When you shop at garage sales, estate sales and antique fairs, you are making a fantastic choice to reuse distinctive furnishings and accessories in your home, and thus saving them from the landfill. It is a great responsibility to give these items a new life by making them a part of your home. With a collection of fantastic found items and eco friendly furnishings, you can truly make your home a unique expression of yourself and your ever changing life in a way that benefits the world you live in.
This is what it is all about; your home is a reflection of your life and experiences. So mix it up and enjoy!

This dining area is a great example of how eclectic transitional design and how eco friendly it can be. The modern clean lines of the teak table mixed with the industrial chairs and various mirror styles make the room interesting and comfortable.
Reclaimed wood mirror detail- love it!
The entryway to your home should set the mood. Here is a great mix a favorite photo, a convex mirror and hand made shell sculpture pieces with a small vintage pine cabinet.
Eco friendly can be stylish. This woven lounge chair and personalized linen burlap pillow are a great way to go- personalize your home and make it mean something to you.
Another amazing space filled with reused and vintage items mixed with new and unusual pieces mixed together making for a great visual display from Ken Levenson Architect P.C.
What an amazing kitchen by Ken Levenson Architect P.C, I love the vintage chairs that are left slightly undone and the vintage table with the clean modern lines of the stainless appliances and the grey cabinetry.
Only in mixing what you love can you come up with an area of such interest as you can see in this photo from NY times.
Here the Living room is an eclectic haven, a vintage subway sign, linen slip covered sofa from Cisco Brothers, a custom made cocktail table and vintage sugar molds, give it a little bit of an industrial edge while keeping it comfortable.
On the other side of this Living room a vintage pine cabinet holds family heirlooms while supplying a surface for a small "cabinet of curiosities" with family photos, a Jamie Young lamp, coral, Eric Zener artwork and some favorite hand made pieces.
Details..
Beautiful vintage chair mixes so well with the classic and somewhat contemporary lines of the stairway.
