Average cost for kitchen demo?
Comments (12)In our case, we did consider doing it ourselves (we did a lot of the remodel ourselves), but had several big elements that were not super well-suited to first-time DIYers--mainly that we were removing a chimney (not hard, but messy and heavy), removing a wall (ditto), and drilling out ceramic tile floor, which while not hard was time-consuming. The rest of it was pretty straightforward but not as simple as modern kitchens, because it was an old house/old kitchen. So it was worth it to hire someone else to do it for the time and headache savings. We do also have pretty strict disposal laws in our state, so we would have paid some of that (I think quotes were $500ish?) just for the dumpster and permits, which the demo company handled, plus any needed tool rentals. They were also able to salvage $1500 worth of parts, so we got a tax receipt for that, which also helped offset the cost a little. (TRP, the organization we used, is the Northern California Habitat partner, so probably similar to Habitat demo programs elsewhere.) I definitely second-guessed some of our decisions on what to DIY and what to hire out, but demo wasn't one of them. :)...See MorePlease Review/Advise with HVAC Quotes in SoCal, CA
Comments (4)Hello tigerdunes, Thank you for your help in identifying the differences between the 2 bids. I would've never known about the refrigerant lines based from my lack of knowledge of this stuff. Yes, these systems are identical. I had intended this so that I can compare "apples to apples". Carrier did provide the AHRI number, but it's not shown on the proposal. Should I insist that the specifics be added to contract before signing? Carrier dealer plan to use Pro thermostat model# T805, how does this thermostat compare to the Carrier Edge thermostat? I did find it curious that neither Bryant nor Carrier included a Bryant/Carrier brand thermostat. The furnace and ductwork is located in the attic space. I did have a conversation with Bryant dealer a while back inquiring R8 and his response was that most houses in my climate zone uses R6 (the impression I got was that R8 would be more than what I'd need), but that he could give me a quote if I really wanted the upgrade (said it's not that much more in cost). So as far as the option of getting all new R6 ductwork to replace the existing R4, I was leaning towards passing on it factoring that both heating and cooling is scarcely used in this house. The winters are pretty mild here (this past winter the heating was only turned on twice for several hours at dawn. During the summers, the A/C gets turned on no more than a total of 10 times for several hours in the late afternoons of the hottest days. I figured if the existing ducts are in good condition, I saw no cost-benefit to upgrade to new ductwork. What do you think? Am I wrong in my rationality? Yes, there is only one return, located in the hallway. I measured the grille to be about 15"x30", actual open area is closer to 13"x28.5". We are thinking enlarging the existing to 20"x30". Will this be large enough for 1200 CFMs? Thank you again for your help!...See Morewhat is the avg cost for 47 x 47 tile installation, first floor?
Comments (8)Those tiles are MASSIVE! They are d@mn well 4ft x 4ft (we are assuming you are saying 47 inches x 47 inches). The tile cost is going to be the least of your problems. The cost of the HIGHLY TRAINED (and expensive) tile setter with 15+ years of experience AND who specializes in extra large format tiles will be very high. And that's JUST his labour costs (price per square foot to lay the tile). That does not include his costs per square foot to prepare your subfloor for those tiles. Then there will be the costs of materials OTHER THAN the tile. And then there is the SIZE of the project. Is this 2000sf for the whole home or is it 200sf for the kitchen or is it 20 sf for the bathroom? Are you on slab or on wooden subfloor? What is your location? What is your access to high-end tile setting professionals with the prerequisites I list above? Wow! So many things to know before we can even GUESS at costs....See MoreCost to install cement floor tiles
Comments (1)Get a price for the entire project (including flattening the floor). Do not get hung up on a sq ft cost. Hire the best guy you can find. Before you go any further check the screw pattern for the fasteners meet the manufacturers pattern and screw type as they look like drywall screws and not cement board screws (yes they are different)....See Moreitsallaboutthefood
