Monogram Dbl Wall Oven-Input and Opinions needed ASAP

I apologies for posting again about this oven but....my latest offer from GE to replace my ovens is $1550.00. There are no local dealers with demos. Wondering what the blow out heat issue is like for those that have this oven. I need to respond back to ge in a few days, was hoping for a total rebate but no luck. If those of you that have the newer monogram what other comments can you make. thanks, rdms

Does that mean they'll give you $1550, or that you'll pay that to have a Monogram oven?

I wrote today on your other post. If you read that you'd know that I wouldn't pay anything for a GE Monogram oven.

But really, if you bake cookies only occasionally, and mostly cook casseroles or roast meats, you may not notice things like Cotehele and I, as avid bakers, do. But the temps are not reliable or consistent, like is needed for baked goods. Sometimes meatloaf would take longer than expected because the temps were lower than set. Just depends on what you do and how picky you are. As far as sending heat out into the kitchen, I didn't notice a problem with that, and the fans are very quiet.

The other thing you might not realize is that the full-extension, leave in while you self-clean, glide racks move nicely, but are very bulky. They come with 3, but it's not reasonable to use more than 2. Also, because of their size, there are only 5 rack positions. The top one is too close to the top element, and the bottom one too close to the bottom element, in my opinion, so that really left only 3 rack positions that I felt comfortable using. If I used 2 racks, I had to use one of those rack positions I didn't like.

I had the pro-looking version with knobs. I would stay away from the touch screen control...I tried that out in the store, and often had to reenter my commands, because sometimes if I touched the 5, it thought I touched the 8, and so on. I tried to be more deliberate and careful, but still it 'misunderstood' some of what I punched in. That would drive me crazy at home when I was trying to get something cooked.

thanks again rhome, yes i did read your post. they are going to let me purchase dbl ovens for the price and that includes installing them (we would lose our warming oven). my major concern is the heat/vent issue. my kitchen gets too!!!! hot to keep these ovens. i can deal with all of the issues associated with the ovens but would like to know if they have improved the heat that vents out issue. i can see from the lights that the temps are a major problem. I too have the knobs, in my opinion knobs are the only way to go. thanks again, was so hoping others would respond. rdms

Ahh....Now I feel like I wasn't crazy when looking at ovens. I was looking for depth and crossed off the Electrolux ICON for its lack thereof. An inch and a half can make a lot of difference with the number and size of pans we like to fit in an oven. In hindsight, I may have put too much weight on that factor, but I was beginning to think I'd imagined the difference. Gary, does yours measure deeper, because I thought we'd decided that your oven and my Monogram were pretty close in depth, which was making me think I'd lost my mind somehow when measuring oven interiors. Time4tea, I had seriously considered Bosch, but the current models are brand new for them...Made differently and in a different plant, if I remember correctly. There are a lot more electronics and features than they've offered before. Maybe all great, but I hesitate to buy the first of any completely new attempt. No one I talked to that sold them could feel very confident in recommending them with the lack of history, and the BSH reputation for less than stellar customer service. This isn't any practical experience to share with you, and I'm not the person you were asking, but only my particular thought process in Xing the Bosch off my list.

Gizmonike - I've been obsessed with ovens for months! Part of my decision on the Monogram was budget but I think the Monogram gets high marks for most things, including a not-noisy fan. Good value and a separate customer service from the rest of GE. BUT the clincher was that I really fell in love with the Monogram's full extension shelves and that did it for me! I considered Dacor but there were too many problems with those ovens and the Electrolux is an unknown quantity, despite the full extension shelves. I don't need trivection - and anyway, I've heard it may be discontinuted because it is not selling well. People are buying MW/convections or speedcook second ovens - and many people need or want two ovens, so the Trivection may be overkill for a single oven. I've lived with a plain old horrible 20 year old Whirlpool gas range with an oven that runs cool, the self-clean doesn't work any more, and now the pilot light goes out unless it is at 400 degrees or more. I have to have an undercounter oven (unfortunately) because I only have a 27" place to put ovens in the wall. So, the 120 advantium will go at counter height and I expect to use it most of the time - it's just the two of us. Meanwhile I expect to be obsessed with fridges next!

Agreed, Miele customer service is superb. At the moment I'm not as happy of a camper on my 6 yr old Miele DW, because it's going to be out of service until Tues until the tech has time to come back. Why aren't I pitching a fit? Because their techs are superior to anyone you've ever had in your home. THey could send a "factory authorized tech" sooner, but I wanted the real McCoy. He came yesterday following a long telephone conversation with the tech team, to see if he could adjust the water intake valve because I'm getting increasing errors when I try to use the sink when the machine is filling. they had great online records of my previous calls and suggested a tech come and visit. I'm probably paying for it (it looks like it was our plumbing problem) but competency is so worth it! The tech stopped, told me that we needed to replace this valve, spoke to the plumber on the phone for me to describe exactly what was wrong and said that after a call to dispatch he would be rescheduled. Unfortunately he's a busy guy so w/o a cancellation I'll be waiting until Tues. There's only the 2 of us, so we'll wait. Sigh... OTOH, the extended warranty tech for my KA 42" Fridge just left for the 3rd time over a door hinge. He was late in arriving and has to return for a 4th time with yet another part! There's a big difference in these two companies!!!

fenworth, We've made the TJ cookies tons of times at home using a GE Profile oven (as stated in my original post). We also made them in a Wolf oven at a Wolf center. In both the GE and the Wolf, the cookies come out fairly "normal", even when the dough is completely defrosted (which is not recommended). We did return to Miele, used a different oven in the store, and got the same flatter-than-flat cookies, even with a TJ box that was bought 15 minutes before entering the Miele store. I can't say whether or not the grease filter was installed during cookie baking - as a newbie to the Miele oven, that's not something I would have been aware of (I kind of hope the people working at the Miele center know how to use their own ovens.) Maybe it's this particular Miele store installation, or this particular cookie dough recipe, but there's definitely something different about the way the Miele ovens we've tried bake these cookies.

Again, I didn't notice heat big issues, but all ovens will have some heat that expels into the room.
