Dacor 30' DF Discovery, Wolf 30' AG or GE Monogram 30' DF
Comments (11)I could go on and on about everything wrong with Dacor and have on this forum, but my experience was three years ago and maybe they are better now. I had the Discovery wall oven and the ER36D range. I would also be aware that sales incentives can color the opinion of some sales people. Before you buy, check out the reputation of the store where you would buy your appliances. Check online reviews and BBB. Anyway after we got rid of our Dacor appliances(they bought them back), we thought maybe BS and drove 250 miles to look at them but my husband did not like the fit and finish and they were having problems with the doors and ignitors at the time. We decided to go with the Wolf DF with a sealed burner. I thought we were settling at the time because I wouldn't have the 22K burner. When I got the range, I loved it. It has plenty of heat for the type of cooking I do -searing steaks and the occasional stir fry. The simmer can keep a pot of mashed potatoes on all burners indefinitely. It is often said the flame on the sealed burner spreads but I have not problem making caramel in a 7 inch pan. The semi sealed burner on Wolf AG is different and I haven't cooked on it. If I did a lot of stir fry and high heat cooking where I wanted a more central high heat and that were the most important consideration, I would think about the culinarian and if the simmer wasn't low enough use a simmer plate. I still like the BS shape of the burner for even heating. I don't think there is only one good range but each has features that might suit your style of cooking. The oven in the Wolf DF is great because you can manipulate the heat from the top or bottom depending on what you are baking/roasting and you can use the convection only mode if the oven is really filled up. I've never had to though as it bakes very evenly on the conv bake cycle. I also like the cool doors, with the grands running around plus I don't want to stand in front of a hot oven and the self clean. The AG ranges have the infrared broilers but we grill outside 95% of the time so this was not a feature that was important to me. I know you didn't ask about Wolf DF but since you were considering Dacor DF, I thought I would mention it. Good luck with your decision. deeageaux- "You can argue how much better the Culinarian cooktop is but I don't think anyone can serioiusly argue that the Wolf/Monogram is as good or better" Yes, you can. They are very different and not everyone has the same priorities when choosing a cooktop or range....See MoreGE Profile or GE Monogram dilemma; please help!
Comments (2)Some Monogram products such as ranges and fridges are completely different from the Profile line - some like MWs are just better looking. Also, Monogram provides better warranty service. I'd stay away from a Sears extended warranty - you'll likely be locked into using A&E for service. You don't need to go with a single brand, however. Most of us mix and match. Do your research and get the best brand of each product that meets your needs. No need to get a complete package from one brand....See MoreGE Monogram Wall Oven Racks
Comments (7)Hmm. I have a Monogram double oven and I'm not sure how to answer your questions. It will sound like my opinions are all over the place, which they probably are. The full-extension glide racks are WONderful for being able to reach things on the back of the rack without burning yourself, and they clean up great in the self-clean...No taking apart the whole oven to clean it. A great convenience. The racks pull out SO smoothly...None of the jittering back and forth, or scraping sound and feeling like I've experienced with 'regular' racks. But, they do take a lot of space (I only keep 2 in each oven also), and this also means there are fewer possible rack positions than in other ovens I've had. The top position and bottom position are too close to the elements for most uses, IMO...leaving 3 I am comfortable using. If I do any multi-rack baking, I do end up using the bottom position to get enough air flow/space between racks. I doubt you can get regular racks for these ovens, and don't think it would really solve any of the problems they cause. It would only take away from the one of the main pluses these ovens offer. As far as 'if they are any good.' My short answer is 'yes.' My longer answer is that if I hadn't had Fisher and Paykel ovens first, I would probably think the Monogram was great. However, the F&P ovens were superb bakers with a convection system I preferred. But, they had porcelain issues and problems with the controls on the new model...so I had to sell back the F&P and start over. The Monogram uses a different method to move the air around and to regulate its temperature. I never burned anything in the F&P, but I have overbrowned some things in the Monogram. It's just a little frustrating to have had a good system worked out and have to relearn, adjust, and monitor things more closely...but I'm sure it's possible. You may not have those problems if you didn't have another great convection oven before. We use our oven daily...sometimes a few times. We have a big family, and we homeschool, so are home all day and do a lot of baking from scratch, including all of our breads, as well as goodies, and meat roasting, etc. I am probably pickier about oven performance than most......See MorePlease help! Wall ovens driving me crazy--Wolf, Miele, Dacor?
Comments (53)Take it from me what CR says about Thermador wall ovens is absolutely true. I have purchased two 30" C series Thermador ovens and am getting ready to replace the one that was existing in the home we purchased last year. Loved the way my Thermador's cooked, baked, and broiled but had to have them repaired. It seems there is insufficient insulation between the oven and the electric control panel and when you use the self clean, over time, it causes the control panel to fail. This is a minimum $1,000 repair. I live in Dallas and there is only ONE company in this area that will service Thermador ovens because Thermador service dept is so difficult to deal with. My regular service company which is efficient and costs are fair told me they stopped servicing Thermador ovens for that reason and three others I tried said the same thing. Both my Thermador ovens needed the control panel replaced within three years of purchasing and the one in our new home could not pass inspection and had to be repaired by the seller before we moved in - yep it was the panel and it cost them $1,200. They didn't cook and it was an older oven. The space we have for the wall oven is 27" and after looking and looking and doing research and reading here and other web sites with independent reviews by actual owners we have chosen the Miele Master Chef Classic Series which has the Novatronic controls which everyone seems to love. This choice was made in part because of the rotisserie feature which we do use quite a bit along with other features we liked and which were well reviewed. It was more expensive but we went with a straight Microwave which suites our needs and we chose the Electrolux Ei27MO45TS microwave which meets all our needs and was well reviewed. Went with the Miele warming drawer because of the match and the fact that it was the same price as most other warming drawers we were considering. We stack our ovens in an unusual way which we really like with the actual wall oven first, then the microwave, and then the warming drawer. It is logical to us because the heaviest items come out of the oven and having it at the top means no stooping and it's easier on the back. We usually only use the warming drawer when we entertain and to reheat leftovers which it does so much better than a microwave. Still trying to decide on which Fridge and Freezer columns to choose but that's another forum...See Morebigkahuna
