Miele has superb customer service, if any problems can't be corrected by phone, they send service people who keep coming until the problem is solved.

As far as Dishwashers, after extensive research both here, on the internet, and dealers I just chose a Miele dishwasher over the Bosch. Bosch seems to have some performance issues that have been mentioned several times throughout these postings which concerned me. I'm sure they are excellent DWs but Miele's ratings here were rave reviews throughout.

Additionally I have a Miele wall oven and love it. Sorry I have no info on Monogram, but we got into being "Mieleized" Good Luck

I have Miele double ovens, a 36 inch Miele induction, a Jenn Aire Fridge and a Kenmore Elite (left over) DW. No warming drawer. Appliances have been working about 6 weeks.

I love the Miele appliances and the other 2 as well. I agonized a long time over the appliances and decided upon Miele because of their reputation. The Monogram sliding racks were tempting, but I was concerned about GE 's reputation. Many people on this forum have monograms and love them. Do a search for both. It's difficult to decide. No contest, Miele is better technically and from a service standpoint. It's gonna cost you more, so only the end user can answer the value proposition for himself.

A small consideration is that GE is trying to unload its appliance div. so there is naturally and will be some turmoil that will trickle down to the end product and experience. Not a reason to not buy, they make fine products, but you should be mindful of the situation.

eggcream, so glad to hear your opinion on Miele's customer service as I didn't know for sure if the salesman was trying to just make the sale. That will be a huge plus to me in making my decisions. Sounds like you love your Miele appliances-thank you.

Just a note on the Miele DW, just got my new one installed, never had one before and I was so blown away by how well this machine washes EVERYTHING that I told my husband that I leaving my dirty house and moving into the DW. Once again I was able to call Miele tech center and got answers immediately to all my questions about the machine. I'm not a Miele kool aid drinking person, I just know now that with their products and service at least you get the best for paying an awful amount of money. How's that for a deal? Ha Ha

We have Miele DO and DW's and Monogram all freezer/fridge units.

When first installed, the Miele ovens were about 50 degrees off. Miele sent a tech out within 3 days who calibrated the ovens, When they still didn't work right, they replaced them. They OFFERED ME MY MONEY BACK so I could go with a different brand if I didn't want to replace them. They also had a tech out (same guy as for the ovens) within 1 week to help me set up the DW that wasn't cleaning dishes. Our other DW is a salvage from the old kitchen, also a Miele, 10 yrs old and still works like a charm.

Our GE Monogram fridge and freezer were purchased and installed at the same time as the Miele stuff. The fridge has mold and the freezer builds up so much frost that the drawers and hence the door won't close. GE won't do a thing to help with either unit. Looks like we will need to replace them within a year of having them installed and we'll probably replace with Miele.

antss, I think we posted at the same time. Sounds like you, also, are impressed with Miele's service. Also, thanks for the info on GE's plan to discontinue appliances.
eggcream, thanks. I am sure beginning to think that the customer service of Miele is going to be the selling point for me even if the cost is greater than most other appliances. Not to mention I love the look of the Mieles.
Glad to hear you are lovin' you DW so much...wouldn't it be nice if there was a "Miele Maid" to do the whole house. LOL

So far, I have heard nothing against getting the Mieles from any of you.

Dishwasher: definitely Miele. We have 2 Excellas, the best we've ever used. We also have & love our Miele vacuum cleaner, washer, & dryer.

When we were selecting appliances 2 years ago, the Monogram range was made by DCS. We went with the 36" all gas DCS range, because the Monogram only came dual-fuel. We're very happy with our DCS range, and have an outdoor DCS gas grill that we're also very happy with.

Our only Monogram is our Advantium 240 wall unit. So far it has performed very well.

GE. IS NOT stopping manufacturing, they are simply looking to sell the division to someone with a few billion dollars lying around.

To loves2cook: I also have the Monogram all fridge/freezer. I had a service person here last week for an issue with my cooktop, and at that time mentioned I had seen some small bits of mold in my door shelves in the fridge. I had read about it on here so I thought I would mention it to him. Anyways, he said there was a recent service bulletin on that very issue. It has to do with the fan running for too long. He is coming tomorrow to do the repair. You might want to ask again about it.

I have a Miele d/w and washer/dryer. Had to have them serviced and each time it was a pleasure.

Conversely, Thermador/Bosch sold me a double oven that hasn't worked from day one. They've attempted repairs no less than 10 times to no avail. Dealing with their customer service department is futile. They are big on "blame the customer" and their customer service strategy is apparently to make it so frustrating to the customer that they will eventually just give up. Absolutely the worst company I've dealt with, and we just totally redid our kitchen and house, so we've dealt with a lot.

I simply can't imagine ever doing business with Thermador/Bosch again. Google "thermador customer service" for other opinions.

Agreed, Miele customer service is superb. At the moment I'm not as happy of a camper on my 6 yr old Miele DW, because it's going to be out of service until Tues until the tech has time to come back. Why aren't I pitching a fit? Because their techs are superior to anyone you've ever had in your home. THey could send a "factory authorized tech" sooner, but I wanted the real McCoy. He came yesterday following a long telephone conversation with the tech team, to see if he could adjust the water intake valve because I'm getting increasing errors when I try to use the sink when the machine is filling. they had great online records of my previous calls and suggested a tech come and visit. I'm probably paying for it (it looks like it was our plumbing problem) but competency is so worth it! The tech stopped, told me that we needed to replace this valve, spoke to the plumber on the phone for me to describe exactly what was wrong and said that after a call to dispatch he would be rescheduled. Unfortunately he's a busy guy so w/o a cancellation I'll be waiting until Tues.
There's only the 2 of us, so we'll wait. Sigh...

OTOH, the extended warranty tech for my KA 42" Fridge just left for the 3rd time over a door hinge. He was late in arriving and has to return for a 4th time with yet another part! There's a big difference in these two companies!!!

Oh, and don't even get me started on the GE factory guys! Waits of 4 weeks for parts weren't uncommon on my previous GE fridge! Ya get what you pay for!
Thermador/bosch is okay, not Miele, but okay.

I have had a Miele dishwasher going on three years now...(Diamante') and it's the best dishwasher I've had (I'm 53) hands down. My husband balked at first. I think it was $1200. Our Maytag lasted 4 years.
So now it has come time for new ovens. I called my trusty repairman to ask him which brand was good and which ones to stay away from. He told me that US appliances are not made like they used to be made,...that there were none that were made to last more than 5 years without breaking. I asked him about Miele, and he mentioned that foreign appliances are harder to get serviced (not as many repairmen) and sometimes longer to get parts. He said if I make the choice to go with US to make sure and get the longest warranty I can get and to stick with Whirlpool or GE. Otherwise if I go with foreign (he doesn't service them) to choose one with the fewest complaints and best customer service. "Stay away from LG and Samsung,...they use toys for parts", he said.
So next Tuesday I'm getting the Miele self-cleaning double ovens installed.
I bought the extended warranty. Good luck! It's a brain-racking experience!

trose, thanks for the info. At this point DH and I are considering scrapping the units. Fortunately the appliance store we purchased them from will take them back and give us credit for the purchase price we paid. We're thinking if we're going to be replacing within 5 years we'd get a better deal going with this offer then with having to lay out the full price for one of the better brands down the road.

Would you believe the selling price of the GE Monogram fridge/ freezer unit has DOUBLED in the year since we purchased them. YUP, so we will get a store credit. We are in the process of deciding between Sub Zero, Miele and Northland and leaning to Miele just from past experience but any experience from others with these models would be appreciated.

monaw, so right, it is such a brain-wracking experience trying to get this right. I'm 63 and my husband and I are building our dream/retirement home (we lived in our current home almost 40 years) so I've decided to do what I want in our new home....we tell ourselves we deserve it (LOL)as we've been married 44 years.

Thanks everyone who has shared on this thread. I really appreciate it as I was really getting frustrated with so many choices out there. Even though the price is much higher, you all have convinced me I can't go wrong with the Miele appliances or their service.

I have a Miele La Perla dishwasher, best darn dishwasher I ever had. It's also the most I've ever spent on a dishwasher, so in this case you definitely get what you pay for.

I wouldn't diss GE so much, I have a GE Profile fridge with which I'm thrilled. It is a stand-alone stainless wrapped unit. Works like a charm, holds temps to within 1 degree, has lots of lights, and overall the interior finish is far superior to anything I found at KitchenAid, Whirlpool, LG, or Kenmore.
