Jeld Wen Aurora vs. Therma Tru Rustic Enrty Door?!?
Comments (13)Totally, The JELD-WEN Aurora comes completely finished - stained to your color choice. You don't need to do anything to it but install it. The internal construction of the Aurora far exceeds any other fiberglass door on the market. The other "un-finished" fiberglass doors will need to be stained on site and a clear-coat added to seal. You should also keep in mind that fiberglass doors come with a "wood grain" or smooth. If you want to stain an un-finished door, you need to make sure you buy one with a wood grain. The smooth should be used for a painted finish. Here is a link that might be useful: Our Progress So Far...See MoreHelp with Therma-tru Door and wood staining?
Comments (4)Agree that the wood/fiberglass match will be tough to match exactly, but I would think you could get it close. Here's a pic of our mudroom entry - thermatru stained door with wood trim. The wood is reclaimed chestnut with a natural sealer/finish. And the thermatru door is walnut (i think)single application. The thermatru door is finished with the thermatru stain product. (pic was taken before we had walkways/lawn done, so ignore the ugly grass you see here) :)...See MoreIs PlasPro or any other fiberglass door comparable to ThermaTru?
Comments (32)Well...it's my first time on this forum. My husband and I went through their warranties words by words and noticed something : "However, all bare or unprotected wood surfaces (such as door frames) on all steel and fiberglass Products (note: including any bare or unprotected wood surfaces used or exposed by builders, contractors, dealers or distributors on or in conjunction with the Products) should be primed and painted or stained and top coated within the lesser of 2 weeks of installation or exposure to weather." So does it mean that we need to paint over the hinge location? who paint the hinge area before installing the hinges? NO ONE does that. Anyway, we end up with PlastPro door and we are very happy with it. Plus, their door doesn't have the ugly screw hole around the glass like the old door....See MoreHinged patio doors—Marvin Integrity, Windsor Pinnacle or ThermaTru?
Comments (4)There are only 3 building supply dealers in my area, and none of them carry Soflite or Okna. They do 2 hours away in Northern VA (SoftLight) and Okna's "Find a Dealer" is "Coming Soon" on their website. So for local support/response I have a choice of Provia (getting a quote from Richmond dealer), Marvin, JeldWen, Windsor, Anderson and ThermaTru. I will research performance values, but I find it interesting that Windsor's prices are higher than Integrity. I haven't gotten an Anderson quote yet, but I'd go with Integrity over Anderson anyway. While I have more confidence in homeowner reviews/feedback on this site, there are a few negative opinions on Windsor windows on a couple of oddball sites, however you never really know if they are paid trolls or actual complaints....See Moremillworkman
