Jeld Wen Aurora vs. Therma Tru Rustic Enrty Door?!?
Comments (13)Totally, The JELD-WEN Aurora comes completely finished - stained to your color choice. You don't need to do anything to it but install it. The internal construction of the Aurora far exceeds any other fiberglass door on the market. The other "un-finished" fiberglass doors will need to be stained on site and a clear-coat added to seal. You should also keep in mind that fiberglass doors come with a "wood grain" or smooth. If you want to stain an un-finished door, you need to make sure you buy one with a wood grain. The smooth should be used for a painted finish. Here is a link that might be useful: Our Progress So Far...See MoreProvia French door? Therma-Tru? or ????

Comments (3)Whew. Where to start. Prefinishing is not something that is always done by the factory. Many times it's just a off-the-shelf product applied in a controlled environment, nothing more. Easily something you or any painter could do almost as well, if not better [i.e. no thinning] I work for a distributor and a local painter does our prefinishing, something we charge a handsome fee for. If I was finishing a steel door and trying to do the best job possible, it would go to a body shop, and I'm fairly sure they could do a good job on fiberglass too. Harvey should be able to provide some information on what the door was finished with, so that someone can help you re=coat it, or strip and start over. The pinkish color may simply be due to colorants that were used to arrive at the finish color, just like your local paint store uses. These come in different grades and cheaper ones, combined with the thinning may have brought you to where you are now. They may not want to tell you, as you might discover what I just said, that it's just house paint? And power washing a house with a 25% bleach solution ALONE is like buying bias ply tires. We don't do that anymore, unless you want a bad job and trouble down the line. Ask your local paint store for a good quality house wash that will do much better, be safer to use, and not risk the growth of mildew and other un-wanted results in the long term. The proof may be in what it did to your door, if that is the reason....See MoreJeld-Wen, ThermaTru Fiberglass or Provia Steel Entry Door
Comments (1)No question Provia makes the best doors whether it's steel or fiberglass. I don't think I have ever replaced an old Provia, but I have certainly replaced nearly every other brand including the cheap doors people foolishly buy from hardware stores. I'm kind of surprised you can't afford the painted Heritage Fiberglass Provia Door. It's a little more than the 20 gauge smooth steel, but not that much more. Have you looked at the texture steel Provia? My advice would be to get another estimate from a different Provia dealer. Don;t settle for second best when it comes to your doors. You will never be sorry for buying quality products....See Moremillworkman
