Help?! Frameless shower glass install help needed ASAP
Comments (11)Thanks folks- We got the fixed panel installed today, and it looks great. Man it was stressful though!!! I think I drove poor DH crazy with having to stop every few minutes to carefully think through the next step, and arrange wood/towels/bubblewrap on every hard surface in sight! But its in, plumb and square and looks great. UNFORTUNATELY........ the fabricator seems to have sent the wrong hinges for the door. They seem to be the self-closing 90-degree type, and we needed the adjustable ones for the angled door. Of course they are closed until Tuesday, argh!! (This after they also forgot the setting blocks -which I luckily was able to find at a glass store that was open on Saturdays- so I am not sure I will recommend them. We'll see how they handle the hinge thing. Maybe we are just not seeing how they'd adjust, but I dont think so...) Anyway, I should have been showering in my new shower tonight, but looks like I will have to wait another week! On the plus side- we did not upgrade to Starfire glass (it wasn't offered and I did not think to ask) and after reading about it on GW here, I was worried about the green glass color, but it turns out it looks really, really great with the other palette in the room :) Tomorrow: vanity install! lennym: let me see how this company handles the hinge issue and then I'll post about them. They were the cheapest online vendor I found; maybe in this case you get what you pay for? They've been responsive and helpful thus far, though, and I know they are in the process of moving their showroom this weekend, so it may be a one-time honest mistake......See MoreFrameless glass shower Q
Comments (15)Well, I'm back... Thank you for your input guys, you're the bestest of the best! For the past week, I've been trying to get glass installers to come see the job. Some said flat no, too busy this time of year. Some made appointments they did not keep. (don't you just hate that!) And some quoted outrageous prices over the phone without bothering to even come see the job site or even know what I wanted. They just asked the dimension of the shower and quoted on the square footage, some as high as $125 per s.f. Puh-leaze!!! Frankly, I am a bit discouraged. This part of the project, I would rather not do by myself. Let alone handling large heavy panes of glass, I am nervous about drilling into my nice marble tiles to install clips. I would just crumble into a pile of dust if I were to snap one in the process... Maybe I'll go directly to plan B and install a circular rod and a curtain... (Now...where to find a nickel plated circular curtain rod...)...See MoreFrameless Glass Shower Door Swing Dilemma - Please Look and Help
Comments (38)with 3 young boys I really wanted a urinal in my house, space doesn't allow it and my husband thinks it's a terrible idea. When I dream about installing one I think of all the clean up it would save. Though my boys are being trained to clean up after themselves - I think my 89 yr old is pretty good at it but my 5 yr old and training 2 yr old are not nearly as efficient as necessary. I am one woman who thinks it's a great idea! Rachel...See MoreFrameless shower door help!
Comments (7)Have you talked with the glass installers? It seems that would be a good place to start. Also, the glass company I'm working with gave me a catalog to look at handles. Other parts of the catalog have all sorts of interesting pieces that are meant to be used in interesting scenarios like yours. There was a 90degree Polycarbonate Strike Jamb pieces which says it's 'designed to seal between the door and the fixed panel on a 90degree enclosure. Attach to the fixed panel on the strike side." My point is that I bet they have seen this situation before and can give you some options. I think you could do a thick piece between the tub and shower that extends a few inches beyond the tub. Then hinge the door to that piece. Then have a fixed piece of glass on the short side. The door and the short side close at a 90degree angle. But that's just an idea. I'm not a professional, nor have I actually done my own shower yet....See Moreelphaba_gw
