Need your recommendation for our Front Elevation
Comments (28)IMO your first PaintShop effort was the best. The pediment shaped center cross gable becomes an impressive feature once the little gables are gone. But I would modify the fussy spindle-turned Victorian posts at the entrance. The paired windows and pediment gable are typical of the Colonial Revival style so using a strong lintel over Classical round or square columns would complete the transformation. It would also help to pull the paired windows apart 3" or more so they would look like traditional windows instead of the modern nail-fin kind they are. I would add a sub-sill to avoid leaks and improve the appearance. Stone is fine as long as it extends to a floor or roof lie instead of stopping in the middle of a wall as if it were superficial decoration instead structural. I'm curious why your architect hasn't tuned the exterior up yet....See MoreI need your help on feedback for masterbath plan
Comments (5)Yes a squeegee. Now I know how to spell it. Just before I get out of the shower I use it for the granite seat and as I mentioned I bought it in a pretty color. I don't know about the slanting issue but either way it is useful for any pooling water as well as doing the glass on the doors. My husband loves to do this and since he is tall he can reach way up. I make modest attempts at the glass but I am a real specialist on the granite slab!...See Morewhere did you buy your sinks online? need recommendation
Comments (18)galaxytools.com has an excellent selection of ss sinks, if that's what you're looking for. but they sell only their label, ticor, sinks, some of which look like copies of blanco sinks. i was set on a blanco myself, but read sterling reviews of glaxytools' sinks here on GW, and wound up buying from them, at a tremendous savings. my contractor thinks it's a great sink. the soundproofing on it, he says, is what they spray the undercarriage of cars with. it's heavy duty and well-made. and i bet if you call in the order for "several" of them, you can negotiate a fat discount. i'm still waitin gon countertops, so can't comment on it's usage. however, i can vouch for their great customer (phone) serivce....See MoreI need your suggestions and recommendations...PLEASE
Comments (4)Personally, with brass throughout, I'd leave it alone. Brass faucets may be a bit much, though. We sold a house 2 years ago with all brass door and cabinet knobs. Some of the light fixtures had brass on them, but the ones that did only had touches of it, not an on overwhelming presence. When people were looking, it didn't seem to be an issue. I suppose it's really hard to give advice, though, when I don't know how much or what styles you have. Ours was a clean-lined daylight rambler from the early 1960s and the fixtures and knobs were simple with clean-lines, too. We updated any lighting that was dark (bad center fixture in the kitchen), cheap looking (the $5-range hall light fixtures), or overly detailed....Toned things down to be bright and fairly modern without calling unnecessary attention to themselves. But even if the new ones had metal, it was brass to give continuity. I hate the sound of trading marble for granite tiles! Can you post a photo? Is it really that bad? A lot of this depends on your local market and what else is available in your planned price range....See Morebpath
