I did tub and shower combo. The guest bath is also the powder room and has a shower only.

We did tub/shower combo's in both kids room. One is private the other will share w/ the guest room.

Tub/shower combo in kids bath and just a shower in guest bath. Both decisions based on space restrictions. I wish we had been able to put in a bigger tub in the kids bath. I was thinking it's just for the kids, it'll be fine. But it's too small.

We did shower/tub combos in kids and guest rooms. My MIL loves to take baths, so that is why we did the combo there. I had some people tell me while we were building (you know, in the unsolicited advice category) that it wasn't necessary to put a tub in the boys buddy bath, just a shower. But they are 3 and 5 years old and are still taking baths, so I put a tub and shower combo there. I guess it depends on the ages of your children and what their needs are, and the likely needs of your guests.

We put in separate shower and bath in two boys rooms. We had the space and felt it was the best of both worlds. My boys (6) share a bedroom/bath right now, so the other bedroom is only used for guests at the present time.

We did showers in all the upstairs baths...Ours and the kids'. In the main floor bath we did a tub/shower in case someone couldn't get up the stairs or stand in a shower because of illness or injury. (We're all 'shower people') The main floor bath serves as the guest bath and DD will use it when home from college...We don't have a powder room.

We did a shower/tub in our boys' bath as well as in our guest bathroom. One thing to consider, if you have the depth, is to put in a "deeper" shower/tub combo. We had heard of this and choose that for our boy's bath. It is 42" deep instead of 36". The difference is significant and now I really wish I'd put one in the guest bath as well. The price difference was insignificant.

For our basement bath, we went with a shower only for those guests who don't like to step over the tub sidewall and for "hosing" off the dogs (and possibly boys). :)

lindy...what do you think is "too small" for the kids' tub? I'm worried about this too, but not in the house yet to tell if my worry is warranted.

The day our GC bought the tub for the kids' bath was one of our worst days dealing with each other. After being RUSHED to choose a tub, then having to choose another because our 1st choice wasn't in stock or available in his area...I picked out an IN STOCK tub from Lowe's and thought we were done. He called back again and again with reasons not to get that tub and I finally just said, "Get whatever you think would be best".

I wish I would've kept my cool and told him to install the tub we wanted. It's bugged me everytime I remember that day.

We did the tub/shower combo for the kids. We were advised early on in planning to upgrade to a 6' tub instead of 5'. 5' is hardly big enough for any adult that may want to use the bath tub.

the kids have a jack & jill, but they only share the tub and shower. they each have their own lav and vanity. you can see our plans in the post titled "i'm finally showing our drawings". the upstairs guest room has it's own bathroom en suite; the downstairs has it's own shower and connects to the powder room.

Fairytale, I set out to measure the tub for you and then checked to see if I had a model name in my files. I just discovered that the tub we were supposed to get is bigger. Argh! Although, as my dh pointed out, I don't know how we could have gotten a bigger one without rearranging the entire bathroom layout.

From end to end, the tub is 58"x 30" but inside where you sit down it measures 46"x18".

My girls are 6 and 7 and love to take baths together. I thought they would be into showers by now, but they still love to play in the tub. It's VERY difficult to fit them both in there. I usually give in and let them use mine.

Make sure yours is big enough for an adult to use. Try not to think of it only as a kids tub. At least, that's the lesson I learned. :c(

We did a tub/shower combo for our daughters room and a shower only for our son. 6 year old daughter still prefers a bath whereas 8 year old son has been a shower guy. We figured if he has would like to take a bath he can use the claw foot in the master.

ehoops. you are generous. my kids have already been "banned" from using my clawfoot. :) I've lived far too long with only one tub in the house and a 3 and 4 year old who love to crawl in with me every time I want some peace and quiet. Picture three people and enough toys to send the tub through the floor. They get their own tub to terrorize in this house.

I put a tub/shower combo in my daughter's bathroom, a separate tub and walk-in shower in the master, and a steam shower in the pool/guest room bath.

Jay, I can picture three people and tons of toys in a beautiful claw foot. Not sure I'd like to be one of the three but I can picture it. At 6 my daughter would still love to climb in with me, thankfully my son is beyond that. Also, we have a hot tub so when we all really want to hang out in the water together thats where we go.
