Yes, I think it will be a problem. I think a king-sized bed would be fine because the mattress would bend a bit, and the box springs divide into two pieces. The headboard would probably be okay, but I'm 100% certain my triple-wide dresser would not fit through that spot. I don't think I personally would've caught this problem on paper -- good eyes. I like Chicagoians' solution. In fact, I think it's a nicer entrance to the bedroom than the original plan. I would, however, bump that #9 door a little closer to the front of the house so that your sight-line as you enter the bedroom would be the wall (upon which you could place a nice picture) instead of the corner of the closet door being right ahead of you. OR flip-flop it so that the linen closet is dead ahead. But don't let something be "half way" in the sight line. And, yes, I do think big designers would run a foolish thing through time after time. Their job is selling plans, not necessarily following up on them. Don't we see the same non-functional things over and over and over here?

Sorry, didn't realize your first post's link had the images. Now that I've looked at them, I'm wondering how you plan to use the room currently labeled "den" after you remodel. Is that going to stay a second living area or become a bedroom? I ask because if you plan to keep two living areas, have you considered making the current den into your more formal, more public living room and using the living area by the kitchen as a family room/den. If the current den became the front parlor (to use old fashioned language) you COULD put your front door where that window on the side of the bricked section. Then, turn the current foyer into a walk in closet for the first bedroom. Pull just the corner bedroom forward into the porch area to leave room for a nice large closet for your master bedroom. Extend a roof on the side to create a new porch section - giving you an L shaped covered porch. Having the front door facing to the side won't be odd if you put in a curving walkway that leads to the front porch. Here's a sketch to better show what I mean.

Mikie - it's good to know about moving entire folders (I don't have my video's in folders - yet - but am just discovering how useful that would be for shows I've recorded for a few seasons - having them altogether). I'd like to double check and ask what "a cmd window" is - and how I'd get there. Again - I have Windows XP (SP3). Sorry to say, Mikie, but I also need more explanation for what "make a shortcut to the destination , within the folder the files are in... then select a bunch of what I want to move, cut&paste onto the shortcut" means. I know someday I'll understand all of this, but I don't know how to make a shortcut to the destination. And once I cut and paste onto the shortcut, what do I do with it? Absolutely there are some big files - so I'm glad to told me to break it up into smaller chunks. I have so far. Thank you. Lynn.

Thank you all, again. To clarify, we have an accepted offer on the house we are buying. We were able to work out a deal with a closing date in late February/early March, so that gives us four months to sell. Luckily, real estate is moving fairly quickly in our area, so we are confident our house will sell quickly as long as it's priced right. As far as buying when the market was high, we lucked out in that we got a great deal on a fixer upper at that time. We are very lucky to have a good amount of equity in the house. My husband and I are both in real estate (I'm a real estate paralegal, he flips houses) so we kind of saw the crash coming and were able to negotiate a decent purchase price. We're still a ways away from having all the pieces in place, but we're hoping everything continues to go smoothly.
