Looking for encouragement....

Hi guys. Numerous times I have read about others' disappointments, and have not had a turn. Well, it found me.

I had found Danze Opulence shower trim kits in my price range (YAY!), and was about to purchase when DH says that I need to check if that's compatible with the shower valve that the plumber put in. Did I mention that they are finishing drywall this week? So yeah, my plumber installed a Delta universal rough shower valve in the wall without checking with me at all. Now, I cannot have any other brand of shower trim kits without ripping open the drywall and pulling that shower valve.

At first, I was mad. Then I was bummed. Then I tried to pull myself up and go find another trim kit to love, one made by Delta. I went to Lowes today and looked at their catalog. I couldn't find anything that I liked as much as the Danze. And the Lowes guy was really rude to me (humph!). I know that I might sound silly to some, and that someday it won't matter, but I'm still jonesin'.

So, do any of you have a Delta that you love and can post pics? Does anyone have a feel good story of getting over it? Or, maybe you think that I should go through the hassle of ripping out the drywall and change the valve to have the Danze. Help me out here!

I had a similar problem though mine was they put in Danze values. Unfortunately, almost any other brand made the look I wanted but not Danze. I love my Danze kitchen faucets but really, really don't like my Danze ORB bathroom faucets. Even though I got the new version of the ORB, in bright sunlight it still has a purple cast to it. In the Master, I am switching out all the faucets to Moen and then just keeping the shower Danze since you can't really see them.

Don't know if it makes you feel better but you are definately not alone.

Same thing happened to us when we renovated our present home 8 yrs ago. I purchased Delta victorian faucets, and the plumbers put in Moen valves. I didn't even know about it until I saw a different shower faucet already installed. He had just installed a standard Moen faucet that didn't match anything. Everything else in the bathroom was satin nickel, and this faucet was shiny chrome. When I questioned it, he said "Nobody uses Delta; it's junk!". At this point in the renovation I had been dealing with so many major problems, this was honestly the least of my worries, and I let it go.

Please ignore my spelling errors in earlier posts. I really can spell but typos become impossible to fix when you're using an ipad! Colorfast, Thank you for reminding me about those instructions. I think I've finally figured it out! There are no pictures of the streaky marble; it just doesn't show up in pictures. It basically looks like someone wiped the marble down with a dirty rag and left it to dry. The installer said that can be fixed so I'm hoping he's right. The attached pictures are of the splotchy granite (absolute black honed), the glue around the undermount sink, and the irregular seam. The "streaky" granite looks as if there are small spots or streaks of oil on it. That's the best way to describe it. The installer suggested over the phone that I try to clean it with Windex. I tried a small spot and it still looks exactly the same. With the seam, the first inch or so from the edge is very tight and very dark, so it blends in very well with the granite (you can't see this in the picture). Then it gets worse, which is the part that's in the photo. I'm wondering why the entire length of the seam couldn't have a tight fit and whether or not it can actually be fixed now. After revisiting and reviewing all the links, videos, older postings, and seeing all the possible ways Adeniums can be manipulated, bent, twisted, trained, grafted, braided, etc.....these are amazing plants in the hands of skilled growers. The woven, braided forms are not everyone's cup of tea, and I'll admit, the process can be a bit of a PITA to accomplish, especially knowing that the training of the plants is going to always be a work-in-progress. But who cares? That's what growing specialized plants takes. It takes hard work to make a nice plant. My goal, is to grow a braided tower with a fat trunk, and then, after some branch training, to graft all the top branches with a single, selected flower. All those stems that were braided together will produce different flowers, and I am not a fan of multi-colored flowers, multi-style, flowers on one plant. It looks too busy....and reminds me of those 5 in 1 fruit trees. Hopefully, in the coming years, the individual stems that were braided to form the tower's "trunk" will fatten up and possibly fuse together into one lumpy "trunk" supporting a nice rack of branches at the top end.....like a Baobab with flowers. If I had known about Adeniums 30 years ago....I would have tried some crazy training methods back then. Now, today, I'm happy just to see the plants alive and thriving. Long-term training experiments at my age are not too realistic, but I'm going try it anyway. The internet has opened to the world, all the many possibilities of growing Adeniums. Amazing! All you younger growers are very lucky. Losing plants...that , I can do, easily. I'm really good at that. Orchids, died. Bonsai, died or were stolen, gloxinia, died, fig trees died......the list is endless. My growing conditions are terrible for the plants I want to grow, especially for fat-plants that need sun and heat almost year round. NYC is a tough town, indeed. Frank NYC/7b

Hi Carlotta, Long story short, my builder also bought us the blue pine beetle. It was purchased before covid and we are now finishing the build. I was very concerned about the steaks looking dark or blue and the orange standing out with a clear oil stain. I didnt want to go too dark so stayed away from colored stains. We ended up using a clear but it is water based and the steaks look light grey which I like better. I will let you know how it looks when they install it starting this week.

Julie TY...I uaually click on the photos - I don't know why I didn't this time! Temporary black-out, lol. IF IT was my plant: I would 'behead it, most likely as much as half. (could be even lower - depends on where you want branching to start). It will branch out where cut, so consider that. The part you cut off could be re-rooted for another plant. Photo below shows plant that was proned, and is branching now. Often, you get new branches growing from the stems as circled: IMO, your pot is way too big for it. Big pots hold too much of the mix, and it takes too long to dry up. JMO, but it doesn't even look right: small/skinny plant in the big pot. BUT, JMO! I don't care much for the pots with saucers attached - they often don't drain as well. It is a nice pot thou...Mix sounds ok with added perlite and some turface - turface holds more water, so do not use much. Perlite should be sifted to get rid of the dust and tiny particles. Using C&S soil+perlite+granite in approx.1/3rd amounts makes a good mix for succulents.

My plumber also installed the Delta universal rough-in w/o confirming with me. If I wanted to change it, they were going to charge me $135 to remove and install another one. I had planned on using Delta, but a different rough-in. I ended up using the Victorian set and do like the look, but it's not for everyone.

Silly question, but are these shower/tub stalls, where the only access to the valve is from the room next door?

Call me crazy, but I'd get the Danze Kit and a valve to go with it, cut the drywall, put in the new valve and patch it back up.

I mean, it's not like you won't have some patches from damage or something else. Your drywaller should be able to make the patch invisible.

I'm with bdpeck... and others. It depends on just how much you want what you've chosen. If the want is worth $135, it's better to go for it now!

However, expect to pay for the change unless the contract specifically stated brands. If the contract really was specific, then it was plumber's error and he should pay all costs for correcting the mistake.

If it's something you really want and it would bother you every time you shower, then change it. In the grand scheme of things, it's not that much to change it and you'll be glad you did whenever you look at it.

There were a few minor things that didn't come out like I had planned, but I let them go. There were a couple of things of more importance that I insisted they redo, and I'm glad I did.

Well, guys, thanks for all of your responses. I went to my plumbing supply house today, and was able to find a delta faucet I think I will like. I guess the upside is that about $100 less than the Danze. I think I'll be okay with this compromise. meldy, you had it dead on. The fix wasn't worth the cash. It was just really nice to hear others say that I wasn't being ridiculous. :)

Now, that's a NICE upside!

I don't think it is ever being ridiculous to want to get what you planned. OTOH, someday someone will count just how many thousands of details are involved in building, and however many there are, it's a sure thing that something will be different than expected. I glad you found a suitable alternative to "fix" this glitch.
