Hi Everyone!

First off I would like to thank you all for helping me with this tiling project. I didn't post many questions, but found this forum to be a great research tool. In fact I would probably go as far as to say that I learned how to tile from reading this forum. Thanks Bill and Mongo :)

The remodel involved demo'ing the old shower (which leaked into the basement) and the strange cupboard above the closet, which really served no purpose other than to make the ceiling in the shower painfully low. It turned out that the tile was attached to drywall, which had completely rotted away. Demo was easy. Once the first hole was made in the tile, the rest came off in my hands. I also found a nail in a pipe. Hmmm, wonder who put that there.

After doing all of my research, the tiling part was pretty easy. The crown molding was another story. But with a little wood filler and paint it looks almost perfect.

Thought I would share a couple of before and after shots. It's hard to get good pictures of such a small bathroom. Thanks again!

Pat yourself on the back for a job well done! Tiling is not as easy as it might seem. Love your tile and color scheme. The crown came out great!

Thank you Florence, that was my hope - to encourage other newbies to give roses a try (I mean especially OGRs, climbers and shrub types). For me they are the easiest, most generous plants and anyone can substantially improve almost any area with a few well-chosen specimens. Eric, there are a lot of stone houses around here, mostly farmhouses, but many have been covered in stucco or render, whatever it's called. The stone looks charming to me but the new houses tend to be built out of bricks and mortar with stucco on top, certainly more practical! Oath, there are many venerable OGRs growing in old gardens, sometimes right on the pavement in back lanes and such. They are often unkempt, which is a shame. Unfortunately, the modern trend in gardens is lawns with a few boring shrubs and perhaps some HTs lining driveways like soldiers!!! On the plus side, we have access to some great European hybridizers. Many wine growers make interesting use of roses by planting a single rose bush at the end of each row of vines. As roses and vines are subject to the same diseases, examining the rose tips them off to potentially damaging conditions for the vines! Mkrkmr (Michael, yes?), my favourite companions so far are lavender (the dwarf cultivar Hidcote), Nepeta (catmint), hardy geraniums (Johnson's Blue) and sage of which there are so many kinds. I have Russian sage (Perowskia), Mexican sage (Salvia Patens) and Salvia Officinalis. I also like annual Lobelia. I think companions are a personal choice, trial and error and whatever works for you! Jane, you are a sweetie! You know these aren't my best pictures, I was limited in having to use similar angles and ... no luscious closeups ... but I have those, too!!! Jen, full sun is a very doable thing with many orchids. Here's a list for you to consider, to attach them on tree, use a piece (4x4 inches or therabouts) of cocofiber tween the orchid and the tree, use plastic tie wraps (H.Depot electrical dept)to secure orchid to tree, you may need to use more than 1 tiedown depending on the thickness of the trunk you're attaching to. It is important that plant be secure and immobile when tied down to the trunk, new growth has to point upwards for all plants except phalenopsis, they grow hanging down. Google these plants and see what you like and I believe you have some orchid nurseries in sarasota. If you have a hard time tracking any of the plants on the list, let me know. Plants that can be grown in full sun: Encyclia tampensis - florida native, blooms in June Schomgburkia- any variety Laelia anceps - summer-fall bloomer brassavola - any variety (nodosa, cucullata, perrinii, dygbiana, mostly summer bloomers, nodosa is expecially fragrant, after dark). Epidendrum ciliare cattleytonia (CTNA)hybrids - small red/yellow flowers. If you have some partly shaded spots, then, you can use any cattleya hybrid or dendrobium hybrid or oncidium (dancing lady). and lastly if you a VERY shaded spot, you can put some phalenopsis in, for these use extra(two layers with roots sandwiched tween them) cocofiber as they will need more moisture than the other plants and preferably within reach of the sprinklers

The planks are floppy not stiff (at least on the 80 degree days I was handling them!), but they are heavy and substantial. The finished floor is very heavy - I had to move a section of about 6 planks wide and 11' long due to a miscalculation, I used pliers to grab the edge and pull it over, but it was heavy and if it had been much larger I would not have been able to. I left the baseboards in place, would have been a lot of extra work to remove them and probably would have meant replacement, which would have added up. The only place I removed baseboards were the kitchen and downstairs bath where there was ugly sheet vinyl with glue-on vinyl baseboards. I put in larger (than the rest of the house's baseboards) wood baseboards to cover the glued-up area. Since the baseboards were installed over carpet there was plenty of room to slide the floor a little under. You are supposed to leave a 1/8" gap all the way around the floating floor to allow for expansion. I didn't worry to much about that since I was installing on a very hot weekend, but I did leave space and didn't shove the planks all the way to the wall on any side. Otherwise it could buckle in future especially if you install in cooler weather an later it gets hot.

Gosh, you guys are so nice. Thanks for all your nice comments. Here are some answers to a few questions: The Backsplash: I feel so sorry for all those poor souls who agonize over the backsplash--asking for mock-ups, changing their minds a thousand times. It is a hard decision. I just hauled a piece of my granite, a cabinet door, my floor tile, and an inspiration photo around to about 6 different tile stores, sat down, and sat "give me your best idea." The best idea was from Trinity Tile here in Central Florida: Interceramic, Oxide Ceramic tile in Graphite ( a dark chocolate brown) color 6x6 tiles were $3.45 a square foot, 1x6 pieces were $2.35 a piece. The 3x6 subway tiles and the 2x2 inserts were just cut from the 6x6 by a great tile guy. Floor: the floor is a chiseled edge travertine in an Ashlar (sometimes called Venetian) pattern. It comes in 4 different sizes and then the pattern is created Coffee Pot: Is Kitchen Aid Pro and yes, it makes a great cup of coffee.

Beautiful! I can't believe you did that yourself and it's your first attempt at tiling. That is impressive! The colors are wonderful, too. What a tremendous improvement over the old bath!

Wow, thanks for all of the nice feedback. It really does give me a wonderful sense of accomplishment, and a tangible one too. I have to admit that before I started I was pretty nervous about my tiling abilities. So much so that I re-roofed my garage and shop (with the help of a friend) as a way of putting off the tiling job. :)

The paint is Benjamin Moore Gray Wisp, it's a blue green gray that changes with the light, as you can see from my photos. It's one of my favorite colors in my house.

Beautiful job. Can you list your tile, fixtures, paint, & etc that you used. I love the color of paint and I am interested in the fixtures used.

Glad I stopped by the forum, I didn't know there were questions for me. I have another bathroom remodel in my future, so I'm sure I'll be back for lots of advice.

Here are more details as requested:

Paint Color: Benjamin Moore Gray Wisp. If you can't get Ben Moore, I noticed last week that Behr has a color "silver sage" that is a very close match. And just about the same as the RH Silver Sage...can they do that?

Grout Color: Laticrete Silver Shadow *Special order from Lowes. If you're painting a blue/green/gray color, I highly recommend this grout, it's gray with blue/green undertones.

Subway Tile: Lowes. I think Interceramic brand.
Beaded accent tile, also from Lowes.

Shower Fixtures: American Standard Williamsburg tub filler and faucet handle.
Kohler 30 polished chrome slide bar with Bancroft trim kit.
Kohler Bancroft supply elbow
Kohler Bancroft Hand Shower, polished chrome.

Not Pictured, I also installed the Restoration Hardware Vintage glass shelf in the shower, on the wall opposite the showerhead. I absolutely love it! I know the niches are also popular (may do that in my next bathroom), but I'm glad I went with the glass shelf in this shower, and it was very easy to install.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Hopefully I'll be back on the forum with questions of my own when I finally get around to tackling my second bathroom remodel!

It looks lovely! I'm doing a similar style bathroom and am using Kohler Bancroft fixtures. I want a hand held shower head as my main shower spout like you have, but I was worried that the Bancroft one might be too heavy or awkward. How do you like it? Does it seem sturdy? What about that sliding bar? I don't want my kids to knock it of and bang up the shower... This is for our kids' bathroom. I'm debating between a fixed speakman shower head (but would miss the ease of a handheld), this one you got or the Kohler flip (though the style doesn't really go with the rest of the bathroom).
