WOW--you're right, Bill! And of course the fish theme would appeal to you :) But she's definitely a girl after my own heart. I'm not usually a fan of those glass "gem" things that are found at Michael's etc. but she puts them to brilliant use.

And the second guy-you commented on exactly what stood out to me too, the counter. How cool! I wonder how he did that--embed the red things in the concrete? I like his entire aesthetic, down to using the trowel marks on the column. It *does* make a statement in itself.

You're making me itchy to get that mosaic up! I am so sick right now, I can't cut tile or anything...but as soon as I'm better, I'm going into high gear.

As a real estate appraiser I would advise to try to keep it. It will reduce the valuation by a few percent. If I were to appraise your home, I would now have to compare and adjust it from a 3 bathroom home to a 2.5. That's anywhere from $2,500 to $5,000 adjustment downwards. Understand that I don't know where you live or your real estate market. Even though there is no bedroom on the floor, it's a very usable space. At the very least, I'd put in a shower. You just never know when someone will lose their mobility. It looks like an older home. If your laundry room is in the basement, you may want to reconfigure it to bring the laundry up to the main living area. That would be an improvement in utility and the only reason why I would consider eliminating it. Hard to see everything, but you could reconfigure the doorway/entry and take over that vestibule area.

How would you grout this bathroom floor?

I've never understood the concept of using a dirty color grout so the dirt doesn't show. If the grout is dirty it needs to be cleaned, and that is easier seen if the grout if white. Besides, this style of tile is an attempt to duplicate a marble installation. You would never use a contrasting grout on a marble installation.

I'll be a contrarian. I would never knowingly rent a room with a shared bathroom in the hall. That would be a complete pass - I don't even like having to use a hallway bathroom in a sleeping situation in which I would share with friends and family because if I need to use it in the night I would have to wake up more/get more decently dressed and I hate having to shlep stuff to take a shower or perform normal grooming stuff in a bathroom. I don't have the horror of viewing a toilet from a bedroom that some houzzers seem to have. It certainly wouldn't bother me on a temporary basis. I have a master bath in my home and I can't remember the last time I actually shut the door. I don't have issues with smells or humidity but perhaps that is because my Toto washlet has a built in deodorizer AND I have an excellent Panasonic fan which runs based on ambient humidity levels. I don't generally even have condensation on shower doors or mirrors after exiting let along huge amounts of humidity wafting through my bedroom. The question really is one of economics. There is a cost to installing the bathroom and OP would need to decide whether they would make up the expense by having increased rent and/or renting it out more frequently. Certainly any prospective renter would see a picture and determine whether they wanted the ensuite with a curtain in the room or use of a bathroom in the hall. Also resale value is a red herring. At such point that OP wanted to sell it would be relatively inexpensive to convert the bathroom into a closet if having the ensuite in that room was a negative.

How to clean polished marble bathroom floors

I need some help too please 🙏🏻 I was given bad advice from a professional tile restorer that I should use vinegar and warm water to clean my bathroom floors/ grout. I have a new construction home and the tiler did not cover the floors after he finished so every contractor walked on the bathroom floors dragging mud and paint… needless to say the grout was no longer bright white. I have been trying to get professionally cleaned but no one wants to touch marble. So I used the vinegar and a plastic scrub brush and of course the polished marble is now matte. I ended up doing the entire floor because the matte area I did first was in the middle of the floor and it was very obvious. I don’t mind the look of the less shiny floor but I’m worried it’s now going to stain very easily. I bought a steamer to try to do the grout but then I read no steamer on marble either! What do I do? Do I reseal the marble? Also all of the staining did not come out of the grout. Is it possible to re-grout the floors to kind of start over? Any advice is much much appreciated.

Fly-- I'm sure most of that was in the concrete when first poured into the mold, and then all ground down as one solid unit, just like terrazzo. Once he dropped it and had to repair it, I'd imagine he used the same epoxy or polyester resin they use for seaming countertops, as well as maybe a couple of small pieces of reinforcing rod between that black piece and the countertop on either side of it, and then reground it.

Ah--thanks. Concrete is one world I think I shall never conquer.

Thanks for the virtual chicken soup :) funny side story: We had storebought but fresh matzoh-ball soup last night (not Jewish, but I sure do love a lot of Jewish food) -- I remember our circle of friends bringing that from a Jewish Deli (Katz's, I think? lower east side) whenever anyone got sick--I happened to see that a store we frequent was making it for Passover and wanted to get some immediately! But this west coast natural-food-store version was definitely inferior, like they used whole-wheat matzoh meal or something, and on from there--wrong in every way...ugh...DD couldn't figure out what it was that I'd been so excited about. Another thing for the 'visit the east coast and share Mommy's and Daddy's background' visit.
