Open Floorplan: living room/dining room OR extra big living room?
Comments (12)I vote for hardwood or engineered wood through the whole space, including the kitchen. Opening the wall would be nice, but I suspect your appliances are arrayed along that wall? I'd paint the wall the same pale color as the living space, and hang a really big mirror on the wall if you can't open it. Then you open the wall visually, and reflect the light from the sliders back into the space. (I know...me and mirrors. They are great manipulators of space, particularly when you commit to making them big!)...See MoreBefore and After From Family Room to Dining Room TO KITCHEN
Comments (49)Okay - a few wanted a few more pics of our remodel - and if you'd like to give suggestions I would love them! The plaid chairs is where the kitchen use to be - post hasn't been trimmed out yet (it's a weight bearing). The family room use to be a finished wood shop. Since it was attached to our home - it was a no-brianer to make use of the finished square footage. Now - my dilemma. The colors don't match. Does the striped wall go with the kitchen (paint color: revere pewter). I would love these three areas (sitting area- plaid chairs, kitchen and family room) to look great together since they are adjoining. Sorry this is turned on it side - can't get fixed. Room is large and couch is unfortunately needs to stay - it's new. Wall art - needs to be fixed :( this was the wood shop - turned into family room...See MoreHow to arrange a large 'square' family/dining room off kitchen.
Comments (3)During the planning stage we went back and forth several times with the direction of the vault. The porch outside the big glass doors is a gable and we played with the idea of having the vault run from left to right and through to the porch. We kept changing the proportions of the room to accommodate dining, seating areas etc. At the end we 'forgot' to change the dimensions back to 22 x 26. You look at the plans so much that you don't 'see them'. The room looks massive yet it is not long enough for seating and dining - and its too wide. I didn't notice it until the foundation was already poured. Originally we had planned that the room to the left of the main entrance would serve as a dining room. I was advised to put the dining table in the main room and so we made the original dining space smaller by adding space to the office. I'm old school and always liked a dining room and breakfast space in the kitchen. Now I'm building a very expensive house without either. Lesson: decide on the things that are important to you and stick to them. Ignore the advice of people who might live a different lifestyle than you....See MoreNeed sherwin Williams paint color for kitchen/family room and dining
Comments (11)Thank you all. I pretty much feel like the kitchen elements are dictating the show because I am not changing them anytime soon. The kitchen shares a wall with the family room so the color has to satisfy both. I should have mentioned that in my first post. I have natural linen being painted from the upstairs hallway and foyer area and so far that color looks awesome. However I am Leary that this color will be too light for this room. We have 9 ft ceilings and very bright late afternoon sunshine in the family room. Its very dark any other time. I am partial to beige and taupes. Would those colors work here? And for those who have strong opinions about the rug. Would you go light or dark?...See Moretwo25acres
