I'll be right over . . . that menu sounds great! Your table this morning looks fantastic, OA! I don't recall seeing those plates of yours before; are they new? They're really lovely and so is your flatware. I'm lusting after it, actually. Your silver tea ~ or is it coffee?~ service sets a romantic atmosphere and so do your pretty candleholders. Hold the French toast till I get there!

Those pretty dishes really caught my eye. They are so lovely and romantic looking. Love the rose petals you used--I have some of those but forgot all about them when I did my table! LOL Your little candle lamps with the red shades are just perfect on here as are those pretty red glasses. And the silver tea service on the tray really adds elegance--very nice set. Breakfast sounds yummy, hope you both enjoyed your morning. Luvs

LOL, I probably pronounce, and spell, ambiance wrong too. I tend to pronounce things like I SEE them, and thought it had an e instead of an a in the middle. (I had the worst time with subtle. But dang, why put a B in there if they don't want you to use it??) Thank goodness for my AOL spell 'chukker', tho we fight constantly. If I get too mad, I just make it learn a new word. LOL. But I wish there was a spell thing on here at times.

Lynn, the dishes belonged to my mother. I don't like pink much, so I rarely use them. I'm really not much of a Valentine's Day fan either. The set consists of 12 of everything and quite a few serving pieces. I'm holding out for one of my grandchildren to love them. The first one to mention it, gets them.

Karen, I'm glad we have a spelling checker on this forum too. I put an "e" in ambiance and it kept making that little red wiggly line underneath the word. That's why I looked it up on the internet dictionary. While I was at it, I clicked on the speaker button and discovered I was saying it all wrong!

Concerning breakfast food: We're complete opposites there. I love breakfast food and I especially love it for dinner!

Homersgarden, you can google "sifting sugar" and a lot of sites will come up for colored sugar. I got mine at Williams Sonoma, but that was during the holidays two Christmases ago.

What a lovely way to start Valentines' Day! I'm with you, I'm not much of a pink person, but your dishes are beautiful, and I like the way you overlapped the pink placemats. I think the darker napkins, candle lamps, and stemware keep the pink in line. Not too much, just enough, and the rose petals add just the right finishing touch. Good job!

By the way, make some more French toast. You've got another breakfast lover over here...

OA, sweet table and it all looks lovely. Are your compote dishes unique or did you double them? Love the pink and red together. French toast and bacon is one of my favorite breakfasts and I too love to have breakfast for dinner.

My great idea concerning heart-shaped French Toast was a bust. Turns out, all my heart cookie cutters were either too big or way too dinky. . . . And I thought I was being so smart! So I started making the French Toast and feeling sort of blue about the whole thing.

But then, I remembered the red sugar that I'd put on the table for ambiance/ambience. I sprinkled the toasts with the red sugar and they looked pretty nice, real nice in fact - just as though I had planned to do that all along. Talk about serendipity! Wish I had some pink sugar to sprinkle too. I'll have to get a few more colors.

Phone Girl, the compotes aren't really compotes. Well, maybe they are compotes, but they're a special kind called icers. (At least that's what my mother called them.) Shaved ice goes in the bottom and the food in the little glass bowl part is kept chilled. Somewhere in my house I have the most darling icers. I'll have to look for them and use them so I can show them off.

Isn't that "colored sugar" just the same stuff as we buy in small jars to sprinkle on sugar cookies??? I get red & green for holiday cookies. And, yes, your breakfast sounds so GOOD & successful! Jeanne S.

Yes, Jeanne. I imagine it's the same stuff. But I've never used it for that. (I've never been a big sugar cookie fan.) To be honest, I got a tin of red sugar and a tin of the green sugar to rim the edges of a couple of cocktails my husband served at one of our Christmas parties. One was a Cosmopolitan. I can't remember what the other one was.
This sugar seems a little bit coarser than regular granulated sugar. Would that be the kind one uses on sugar cookies?

Your table is VERY PRETTY, elegant, and cozy all in one. Everything just comes together so nicely. I have to figure out how to use things that I don't normally like. I have my Mother's chlna that's very sweet and dainty, but I don't like blue! Maybe your table can be an inspiration for me to work it in somehow.
