Fab finds and new DT hurricanes

Last weekend DH and I went junking, I found a few fab finds. The rose plates were the best, they are marked West Germany, I see a Valentine table in their future. The same for the cherub planter, it's from the 30's and it is one of my favorite time periods. (I don't know why, it was the height of the depression, but I love Art Deco). The little yellow hound will go with my other 80 animal planters in the kitchen (I have a hard time finding one I don't have). Ane the bottle will go on my bottle tree in the yard. While browsing at the DT I found the components for these hurricanes (remember the ones from last year?).

Frou, looks like you found some neat things while out shopping. I love your new plates and I'm sure you will set a beautiful Valentines table with them and the cherub planter. Darling yellow dog and the blue bottle will be pretty on your bottle tree!

Did you buy the hurricanes separately and knew they would go together like this? So happy for you and all your wonderful finds.

I have the 40" Brinly plug aerator and love it. It's very well constructed and, with two cinder blocks on the tray, will have no problem reaching deep down to pull a plug. I'm 5'11" and can easily operate the handle from the seat of my tractor by turning left, then reaching. It's not as inconvenient as it sounds. I had the same thought process as you: get the smaller aerator so it takes up less space (it's still pretty big). When you consider that you'll have to go over each area three times to properly aerate your lawn, that extra 8 inches would come in handy, but not enough to justify the extra storage difficulty (or challenge of getting it through my door). My neighbor has one of those poly cart/wheelbarrow jobs. We used it to carry some large rocks once and it folded in half. There is no question a steel cart is more rugged. I have a John Deere 10 steel cart which doesn't rust because I keep it in my shed. It doesn't double as a wheelbarrow, but I have a wheelbarrow, so no sleep lost there. Different tools for different jobs. The wheelbarrow gets used, abused, and left out in the elements. It's never been touched up and never will. When it rusts to the point where things start falling out the bottom, I'll take it to the scrapyard and buy a new one. It's the one piece of equipment I own which I truly do not care to maintain. On the other hand, the Deere cart is kept in the same meticulous state as the tractor that pulls it, and will probably be handed down to my grandson one day, but that could be a while. My oldest son turns four next month.

That is just unreal how your new heart signs go so perfectly with all the colors in your kitchen! What a great find--it was just meant to be, right? ;o) How cute to have the puppies kissing. And all your blue vignette looks so pretty. Very refreshing to see blue for Valentine's. Lynn, I'm like you, need to pull my Valentine's decorations out and do a bit of decorating. It will be here before we know it--time goes by so darn fast! I think my Painting forum would appreciate it if I got busy on some new painted items--we are really dragging over there right now! Kath, sounds like you fit in perfectly here. We love all kinds of decorations and this post has brought some new fun things about. Your pictures are wonderful and amazing what the new phones offer. My decorating this year we be the same as yours and save me alot of time. Loved seeing Candy and Karen's prints and Jane's idea from calendars would be great too. I only have one framed print for Christmas but may enjoy more if I get creative. I received mine as a bonus for spending over $100 at one of the stores years ago. J, hope to see DH framed this year! If he's a good enough sport to dress up, by all means you should frame him. If you go as Mrs Claus I hope we get to see that too. Punk

Shee, that is too funny. I can relate to the reactions of some family members who are not obsessed with decorating the dining table. Last Christmas when DB & DSIL arrived, they took one look at my table and started calling me "Aunt Sandy", a reference to Sandra Lee, a food channel show host who includes tablescape ideas as part and parcel of her cooking show. I think there was a compliment in the comment as I've since caught a couple of her episodes. Yes, some are a bit over the top even for me, but she seems very handy and gives ideas as well reasonable and practical sources so that viewers can get a similar "look". I've always used my wedding china, over the years have collected 14 placesettings of Lenox holiday china and the happy recipient of Chalfonte "Indian Summer" china pattern, all remaining placesettings together with serving pieces -a gift from my DM. "Indian Summer" was her wedding china. I was amazed at how many pieces were intact as the china is over 50 years old. I really have no memory of seeing the china growing up which may explain why there is so much of it left. Seems as though back in the day one didn't use their china but for very special occasions. Your family is definitely going to be impressed when they see your beautiful hurricanes. I've seen your kitchen space on the decorating forum and I think you will have lot's of "wow" compliments. I do think they will look great lit on your tables for Thanksgiving dinner!

Love the cherub planter and those pretty rose plates..I agree, they're both perfect for VDay. I'll be looking to see how you use them. Now with 80 planters, I can understand why you can't find new ones!! That dog will fit in nicely with your collection.
Great thinking on the hurricanes I like how they look alone and together, and you can't beat the price.
You got some really neat things Frou...TFS.

Frou, those plates definitely scream Valentins' Day, can't wait to see your V Day table now!

I didn't see those at the DT, but our DT sucks, it definitely is not one of the better stocked ones around!

Great hurricane idea with them!

Frou, What lucky finds. I like what you are doing with the hurricanes. The little cherub candle holder is so cute. I love, love, love those rose plates!! I can't wait to see them on your Valentine's table.

Love those plates - so many possibilities - that little dog planter is so cute. I find myself going into DT and envisioning all the clear glass as repurposed pieces and stacked on each other - it is a sickness I tell ya - lol I know the sales people must think I am nuts turning a glass/vase upside down and sitting something on top and staring at it. TFS your great finds .....

Me too, frou...love the cherub planter...I like collecting those little boy/girl pastel vases (I've shown them here before)...& this little cherub one is so cute! Your little puppy planter is cute, too! Fits your kitchen so good, love that decor in there!

But your plates...wow, those will be great on a Val table! And that DS glass makes great lookin' hurricanes! TFS! Jeanne S.

Marlene - it is Dollar Tree :) I think we all get brain fade with these initials - for the longest time I didn't know what TS meant .....

You really did find perfect items to use for a valentine's table! Your new candle holders, the little cherubs (so sweet) and those pretty rose plates--Wow!

Love the expression on your little yellow dog too! He will fit right in with your others. 80 of them huh? Now I'd say that's a collection for sure!
