finally a bit of Valentine decor

Finally got inspired to put together a Valentine vignette. Not sure if this will stay long, depends what I do in other areas but thot I'd post it anyhow. Wish I had done this when my red flowers were fresh but when I get more things will change. I do have some silk flowers so could use them. We'll see, I'm sure many of you understand "tweaking" arrangements! ;-) I just shopped my house for all this stuff.

This is on my kitchen sideboard which is my fav place to decorate - big surface and very visible in my house. I've once again used my huge tray to contain things. It's black the same as the sideboard. The cloth is a Christmas one embroidered with gold stars but I'm ignoring that little detail! The white candle holder on the left was originally a really ugly *orange* color, probably dated from the 70's and a cheap YS find that DH painted for me. It makes a good riser.

The red boxes on the cake server are handy for candy-filled gifts. Have to get those ready to send soon. The little white ceramic dove on top is also a Christmas deco I've had for years. Couldn't seem to get a clear pic of it, I'm still having "issues" with my camera.

Here's a little flying angel holding a heart. I've had her for years and like it even tho it's kinda "country".

One of my Brown Bag cookie molds - a heart with cupid. I used these at Christmas also, just changed the ribbon.

Another BB cookie mold, a dove.

I also used these gold plaques at Christmas - have a set of 4 but only kept out the L O V E one. Hanging in front of it is a Kosta Boda heart, one of several I bot in Europe over 30 years ago as Christmas decorations.

These 2 red hearts have DH's and my names on the other side. Have to be anonymous on the net so I've turned them over! ;-)

Only have about 3 more places I hope to decorate so I'd better get busy!

Everything looks great, Luckygal. I really like that little love plate, thought it was possibly metal at first.

The cookie molds are neat too, and make a good decoration with the pretty ribbon on them.

I'm sure you will enjoy your arrangement, and it's nice that it's on a tray so can easily be moved if necessary.

Neat stuff, LG. I really like those Brown Bag cookie molds! And the simplicity of the wood angel is lovely.
The gold love plaque is REALLY pretty.
You did a good job with your home shopping :o) I just learned last year that many Xmas things can be repurposed for Valentines. Of course then I went and packed it all this time without thinking! Maybe that was a subconcious excuse to go buy more? LOL.
I like your idea of using a tray too. I wish I still had a sideboard to decorate. I use to have my late grandmother's but then it wouldn't fit in this house so I had to let it go. I often regret that now.

Punk, I had to close the blinds so I could get a picture of that window ledge. Made me laugh when I read "hiding in the dark". LOL The cherub on the moon was a good find, sort of unique and it has a really nice finish on it. The one holding the bird is my favorite, just love the expression and pose of the little guy. I need to come up with an idea for using him with a birdhouse or something for a centerpiece sometime. Punk, the little hearts are not painted on the plates, just wooden ones I used textured snow on and then painted to resemble "cookies". Sunny Ca., maybe that explains the different colors on the cherubs. Maybe I'm just too picky but the variations bugged me. LOL DD, thanks for your sweet comment about my painted items. This is the only painted Valentine thing I have! Need to get busy and make some for outside--I usually like to have things to hang on my side gate and the lamp post, and might need a plant stake or two as well. Better get busy, huh? That is just unreal how your new heart signs go so perfectly with all the colors in your kitchen! What a great find--it was just meant to be, right? ;o) How cute to have the puppies kissing. And all your blue vignette looks so pretty. Very refreshing to see blue for Valentine's. Lynn, I'm like you, need to pull my Valentine's decorations out and do a bit of decorating. It will be here before we know it--time goes by so darn fast! I think my Painting forum would appreciate it if I got busy on some new painted items--we are really dragging over there right now! Thanks ladies! Karen, I have to agree - my DH is pretty romantic and I get flowers quite often throughout the year - even on non-holidays! Prosperity, my colleagues at work do appreciate when it is my coffee week and the extras I do for them. I enjoy it and it is fun to have another table I can set! Luvs, the faux snow comes in packages labelled as such and is found in quite a few local stores around Christmas time. Kathleen, your snow is GONE??!! We will have ours for a long time yet - good thing we like the winter activites like skiing. I am anxious to get out my St. Pat's stuff too! Jane, not sure how "clever" I am at making the winter decor into Valentine decor - more like "lazy"!! Susan, I can't imagine winter with no snow! Sometimes, when I have to snowblow the driveway so many times, I think I might like to try it for awhile! Yacht, trust me, Ty does NOT want me to STOP. He'd be heartbroken if I did that to him. LOL. Tho I sensed a sigh of relief from him while ago as I was taking down the Val stuff. Apparently "red" isn't his color. Judith....of course its YOUR fault. You can't blame that sweet little dog if you put things too low. Luvs, I bot those plaques at an after Christmas sale and knew they needed painting. DH has a gold paint that is really nice. Love spray paint!

Karen, sorry you had to give up your sideboard, I have this one in the kitchen and a better one in the LR and they are really great places to do vignettes.

Jane, I'm back in the decorating mood thanks to all the nice inspirational pics here so you will see more pics!

luckygal..I love those cookie molds! I've got a couple farm ones from GS's ...and now when I see others, I think of you. Like how you used them & the angel & gold tones...with a bit of red. Real red flowers would have been wonderful! Am envious of your side tables! TFS! Jeanne s.

Everything looks lovely! My fav is the last pic with the special red hearts on the candlestick and the LOVE plaque. The tealight in the teacup is a nice touch too.

Everything looks very romantic. The teacup candle are a good idea and I love the love plate. The silver tidbit server is a great piece, I could see it in all kinds of displays. Thanks for the sharing.

When I bot that silver cake server at a YS for $5 I thot I was paying too much but I use it all the time for display and it tarnishes just like silver plate so I think it is.

I have so many bone china cups and buy more at YS when they are $1-$2 as I need lots for a craft I want to do. Not sure if I have enough yet but they are handy as tealight holders.

Jeanne, I love those cookie molds too and have 5 but these two are the only ones suitable for Valentines. I buy them whenever I find them in YS for less than $2, some in original boxes - I'm sure people get them for gifts and don't make cookies!

I'll get real red flowers closer to Valentine's Day and do another vignette. Real flowers need "protection" around here as my cat thinks they are lunch! Not good for her possibly, and definitely not for the flowers. LOL

This is so pretty! I just finished some tiles (and posted pictures on my blog) but that's all I've got done for Valentines Day.
