Finished small spaces that belong to another will not help you. A plan, and a careful editing to what will fit, attractively and safely will help you. I would advise getting your hands on the floor plan. or doing a measure yourself. Then, a visit of her own furniture, with comfortable seating, and bed of first concern. Sometimes an "outsider" can be the best route. Significant reduction in living circumstances is emotional, at any age, but more so after decades of memories are involved.. ......there are often local sources that can help with this very specific issue. Below....... an actual "visual" sent to ninety year old client moving soon to much reduced space. Very nervous I might add and MUCH emotion involved. : ) But she is spry, a lover of beauty, and she understands now, that not everything from her 4000 s feet can fit in 1000. The baths and kitchen not shown here... but, principal is same. That's what you will need to do. Plan it out. Calmly lol

I read your post and looked at your pictures. My thought was: "What a comfortable home - I could move right in!" So what really bugs you about it? I agree with removing the clock. You could mount the tv on the wall, (hiding the cords?) but is it really worth it? Same with bar stools. I would use them, but if you're sure you never would, why buy them? If you decide to get 2 anyway, choose a style that fits neatly under the island overhang - perhaps a "saddle" style? Wall art? Your wonderful windows are wall art! And... you have a lovely glass case for displaying art objects that you can change out on your whim. Golden oak furniture. I live in a house filled with golden oak furniture my parents accumulated during the 1980's. And golden oak kitchen cabinets they chose when they built a house in 1991. It wasn't until I started reading Gardenweb forums in 2010, I learned that golden oak was "out" and "orange-y". Up till then, I simply thought of all these pieces as "wood". And wood that went well with other (inherited) pieces in the house that date back to the 1920's- 1940's. Trendy or not - it works in MY house. If you truly dislike golden oak, why not sell it and buy what you would like used? Might be more cost effective than buying paint, or hiring someone to professionally paint your furniture. Especially if you might not be pleased with the finished results. Again, I suggest you ask yourself...what REALLY bugs you about your home?

CP Artist My father will have no problem using the bathroom for his short visits. He will wheel himself in the bathroom and wheel back out, like he does in his own home. If he needs a shower he could use ours. I agree about the pantry. That will be replaced with long cabinets that are straight on rather than an angle. We are expanding the master bedroom out two more feet to make our master bathroom 2 feet wider. We will rearrange the master bath and have the door to the master closet entrance from the bathroom. This will give us more wall space in the bedroom for a dress so that the windows on the back of the master will be converted to French doors. The doors will allow larger furniture to enter/exit with ease. I don’t anticipate any problems getting furniture in the other two bedrooms. The hallway and doors are wide. We looked at two other furnished homes that were identical to this model, but smaller (1850 sq feet). Bedrooms 1 and 2 were furnished without the owners expanding the hallway and doors. The dining room may be a little further. I’m actually OK with that. I wanted a wide window to help bring light into the family room. For us, the dining room is one of those rooms, that rarely gets used. My husband and I will be using the kitchen island. I agree about the 1/2 of bath. We have 11-12 more years until we retire! For now, I wanted a 1/2 a bath closer to the garage entrance for my husband and friends to use without tramping across the house. Now, I am contemplating on the ceilings. I think I’m going to do 10 foot in the kitchen, family room and dining and 9 foot for the rest of the house. The models we looks at, had cathedral. I’m not a fan of cathedral in the kitchen with the uneven cabinet or dust to collect. Again, thank you so much for your input. Everyone did a fabulous job helping to improve this floor plan. Felix, you have gone way beyond he norm in providing ideas, schematics etc and it is throughly appreciated. My computer skills consist of ‘googling‘, I am sure you have spent considerable time and effort in doing these drawings. Hopefully, others will benefit from this as well. May I ask your background, and out of simple curiosity, approximately where are you located? I am at a loss for words at the generosity of folks on this thread and in fact on this forum itself. I have followed and commented on this forum for a few years now and am always awestruck by the collective wisdom and kindness of home building “forumites.” Many of you have an awesome sense of humour as well, which is sorely needed and welcome in these difficult times.
