Pillbugs / rolly pollys decimated my peas and tender sprouts for two years. Contrary to the naysayers, it WAS pillbugs because I caught them in the act every night and early morning. I tried diatomaceous earth (they crawled right through it), cardboard rings around sprouts (they dug under them), rolled up wet newspaper (didn’t catch enough), oil/soy sauce/beer/you-name-it traps (didn’t catch enough). I honestly considered giving up planting the tender stuff. After two years of failure, in year 3, I have organically won the battle with the pillbugs in my garden!! I am so elated I’m posting this on every pillbug garden thread I can find! This battle takes commitment. I recommend prepping your garden beds, and a week before setting out plants, go to war. (Or plant your seeds and immediately go to war!) Wet down the soil and about every 2 feet, place pieces of citrus peel (grapefruit or orange), or you can just cut up the fruit. Wait until it’s been dark a few hours. Bring a bucket of soapy water and a headlamp or flashlight with you. CAREFULLY pick up each piece of peel and shake it over the bucket. Tap it to make sure all bugs fall off. The tiny ones really dig in and hang on! There will also be many that stayed in the dirt where the fruit was. Quickly scoop them up and dump them in the bucket too. The first night I did this, I filled my bucket to a 1/2” deep of bugs! Just left them there overnight until they were dead, and dumped everything back in the dirt away from the garden. I kept this up every night for a week, and now just check about once a week. I rarely find large ones anymore, just the teeny tiny ones. I have raised beds and the bugs hide along the edges during the day. I keep pieces of peel around the inside edges and if they are going to eat, they choose the fruit over the sprouts. You’ll need to replace the peels when they begin to dry out. Pillbugs are communal. I noticed pencil eraser sized holes around the edges against the wood. After digging, dozens big and small came out of the spot. If you notice these holes, place peel near them and the bugs won’t wander so far to eat (and potentially happen upon your plants). My peas and lettuces are growing beautifully and barely a nibble has been taken out of them! Lastly, I’ve read of many people that hand pick and throw the pillbugs into the compost heap. I would NEVER do this! It’s basically giving them a buffet to breed in. When you add that compost to your garden, you’re inadvertently adding these pests back in. Happy growing!

This tells me she has an in or two with the cop. Are they related? Friends? There's some connection to the cop doing it or someone close to him. It's totally inappropriate for an officer to be doing this. If it happened to me I would hope a friend of mine would file a complaint with the police department about his actions. Except for process serving or the like police are not to get involved in civil cases. And since there was an investigation going on which I assume is still open, it's even more inappropriate for him to be going to lecture and threaten people like that. Although lindsey_ca brought up many good points, "irrefutable" doesn't apply. Civil cases use "preponderance of the evidence" which basically means whose evidence carries more weight. Circumstantial evidence is strong and credible and wins a lot of cases. It all depends on the facts, the circumstances and how it's presented. Right now from what I've seen there are a few facts that can be stated, she was there, the pills were there, after she left the pills were gone. Draw your own conclusion. Sorry for your troubles Dotmom. Hope all settles down quickly and things go smoothly on Monday. In the meantime, grab a beverage of choice, turn on a favorite show, tape or some favorite music and follow this prescription: Take one cat on the lap every hour. Pet and scratch cat until blood pressure lessens and a smile returns to your face. Repeat as necessary. :) Take care my friend.

My daughter had so much trouble swallowing pills, but after the "turning the head" trick they went down so easy, that now she can take them without even doing that. I think swallowing a pill made her nervous that it would hurt, or she would choke (even though I told her she swallows bigger amounts when she is just eating LOL). Once she knew it was not going to get stuck or hurt, she wasn't nervous anymore and down it would go. As for turning the bottles over. It would rely on me remembering to turn them back right-side up at some point, and how do we know I would remember to do THAT? LOLOLOL! I have one kind of pill in a blister pack and I have been told DO NOT open them before I need them. They degrade quickly, I guess. Plus they have a time release coating that should not be rubbing up against other pills or whatnot. I haven't been able to find a container that holds ALL the pills I have to take morning and night anyway. Dances.

Done! BTW, three of the cats were about six months old & dumped on us one at a time over the past 15 years. Two were in heat & one was in already pregnant which the Vet found out while spaying her. The other jumped out of a UPS truck on Valentine's Day, 2014. Must have been a barn kitty, younger than six months and my BFF. The winners are: 1) Pepper the Tabby!! She's the youngest. This is kind of cute. After I gave the first cat a pill I brought the box UPS left & set it on the peninsula counter top, which also serves as my vet table. Before I opened it I went to another room for a few seconds, and that's when I saw Pepper laying on the counter next to the box. Pepper always knows that usually there's a tub of fresh Temptations in those brown boxes. Quickly I buttered up her pill, pulled by the scruff and she opened her mouth without a fight. She was shocked though. Afterwards she got some fresh Temptations. :) 2.) Raven the Runaway Tuxedo, the Valentines delivery, my BFF. Tuxedos are my favorite. She took a buttered pill like the Tuxedo she is. Perfect. She came in 2nd because I had to walk to another room. 3) Fifteen year old Lizzie, the fighter boxing champion. I got a good grip & pulled her up & got it in her mouth. The whole time her to front legs were trying desperately to claw me. 4) My sweet little mama's girl with a fat belly. Timid Callie, the Calico. She was the one who had babies. She tried screaming the whole time but I got the pill in & followed her around the LR making sure she swallowed it, went back to the table to clean up and the pill had already fallen off the table onto the floor. I crushed it with wet food, came back and she took two big licks then walked away. The rest is waiting for her. :) Never did I think I'd become a cat lady, but they make me happy.
