Pictures of Dark color grout for 12x18 white tile?

Hi,

I'm planning to install white/beige 12x18 or 12x24 porcelain tiles (large subway tile style) for our shower/tub wall, then charcoal gray porcelain tiles for floor.

Since I like darker floor color, I picked the light color for wall to make our bathroom look not too dark. However, I'm worried about using white grout for wall since I heard it's so hard to clean...

Would it be weird to have darker color grout such as charcoal gray for white/beige tile?

If you know any links/pictures online of "light color tile w/darker grout", please share with me!

The color of wall tile I'm thinking about is like "Alba" in the link below or even whiter than that...

It's called epoxy grout.

This isn't 12x18, but it might give you some idea of the stark contrast of using a real dark grout like that. I also need to say this isn't my work, but someone elses over at John Bridge's:

Bill, I've heard people who used very dark grout on floors complain that it too stains - in light patches. Have you experienced that? If so, could that also happen in a shower application?

I don't know what the sealer recommends for drying time before using it on the grout, but 9 times out of 10, when the sealer turns white, it's because there was moisture in the grout, and you're going to have a bi*ch of a time getting rid of it. I won't even go into the aversion I have to aerosol sealers to start with.

Now focusing on either completely white marble or pale marble body color with pale streaking. Any suggestions? (All my samples of marble have medium to dark toned streaks.) One idea is pillowed thassos like Mindimoo, but I dont have a picture. Is it my imagination or did my thread about choosing the finish of the Modernaire hood crown disappear?

Ok first, two grouts are incredibly easy :) My tile guy has done it all over the house for me...for instance, each row of this carpet has a different grout color: (this is pre grout by the way, but the grout is perfect in each row and matches exactly): So don't let that stop your decision. It's an easy process. They just apply blue tape where the grout isn't supposed to go, and then apply as usual. No biggie at all!!! Follow the manufacturer instructions! I did't know it was handmade. Mine is as well and there can be variation in both slope and size by very very little, but when you put up the tile, that variation becomes huge. 1/16th here and there isn't visable to the eye, until you try to make your poor tile guy do a 1/16th grout line. So go with the manufacturer recomendation. With larger grout lines, it's even more important to think of color of grout and again, I'd say use two. The reason being, look at my tile...if I'd used say a white or beige grout, (the grout is called Pear) the grout would scream at you, but the pear blends in pretty well. Big grey grout lines in the tan tiles isn't going to flow as well IMO.

Thank you all for your wonderful advice. We decided to call the tile guy early this morning and play it safe and just go with the white grout. I just figured I rather be safe than sorry! : ) I will try to post pictures tomorrow of the longest kitchen remodel in history, almost two years, but who is counting, besides me! Thanks again for all your advise~

Not sure if this is just a fantasy or truly exists, but I've heard that there is a grout made now that is made with sealant in it so that it won't discolor. Seems like a brilliant idea who's time has come. You might ask a tile showroom type place or your installer if they have such a thing, so you can go with the color you want.

Thank you so much for posting picture!! That's exactly I was looking for! I love the sharp contrast of white tile w/darker grout. I think I'm going to do that for my bathroom!

Just curious should I use epoxy grout for shower floor/wall? Or only for the joints of wall-floor-ceiling and/or niche - wall?

For my money, epoxy is overkill in a residential installation. As for the corners, siliconized latex caulk, manufactured by the grout company to match the grout will do fine.
