Argh. New Bosch dishwasher- food trapped in spray arms!
Comments (32)I found one technique for removing loose particles inside a spray arm on a Whirlpool dishwasher. It works when there is a small vertical displacement between the center hole in the sprayer and the smaller holes in the arm. It requires a bathtub or large basin with several inches of water so the spayer can be completely immersed while it is horizontal. Holding the sprayer flat, with the large hole in the center of the sprayer facing the ceiling, slowly lower it into the tub/basin. Water flows through the smaller holes in the arm-pushing debris to the center hole. The center hole submerges last. After the spray arm is completely immersed, turn over the arm, keeping it completely under water, so the large hole is facing the floor of the tub. Still holding it flat, lift up slowly. The smaller holes in the spray arms will break the surface first allowing air inside so water and debris drain through the large opening into the tub. I usually repeat this a few times....See MoreBosch Dishwasher Warning
Comments (8)We had problems with black specks and residue on our dishes with our top-end Maytag. At first I thought the machine was corroded after sitting idle and neglected during a yearlong remodel. But the water heater had also been moved, and so I checked the dishwasher water temp after the initial fill. It was mostly getting cold to lukewarm water standing in the pipes because it only uses a few gallons, and this was probably not enough to really dissolve powdered detergent and activate the enzymes well. So now I run the sink faucet until the water is hot before starting the machine, or set the high temp option when running on delay, and the specks and residue are gone. Still don't think the Maytag is a great dishwasher, but at least doing an OK job....See MoreBosch dishwasher people...
Comments (49)I am well pleased with my Bosch except the tub is so low to the floor and it's not fun with osteoporosis to load and unload. Otherwise, it performs fine and is extremely quiet. You must disengage the finishing beeper or wake up in the night to the sound of it. It is much quieter than the Kenmore or Whirlpools that I had previously. Quiet is important to me....See MoreDishwashers - Bosch, Samsung, GE
Comments (15)I will second the recommendation from oneandonlybobjones to look at the Bosch 300 series. Bosch refreshed its line-up earlier this year and the new 800 and 300 series were just reaching stores in our area when I was DW shopping last month. The model I bought (from Lowe's) was the SHE863WF but the differences within the 300 are pretty much only differences in door and control configurations and whether you want to panel your DW. I discussed that purchase in this thread from last month, if you have not already seen it. To sum up -- excellent cleaning, more capacity than previous Bosch models I've owned, and more configuration flexibility. The new model tends to take about two hours for a full load whichis not uncommon for any make these days (and some of them take a lot longer.) The Bosch 300 series does a good job on the 30-minute clean cycle, too, if you are in a hurry, but does not dry well on the short cycle. (For me, that problm is usually solved by propping the door open for about ten minutes after the cycle finishes and then most things are dry enough to put away.) FWIW, I bought my first Bosch DWs in 1998. I've never missed having a grinder nor have I missed having an exposed drying element in the bottom of my DW. I have never run into the problems that some folks have such as not drying well (which sometimes seems related to non-use of rinse-aids) nor bad smells and/or gunk on the filters (which mostly seemed related to the particular water supply and the chosen detergent -- switching detergent seems to fix many but not all) such problems.) Tine positioning and spacing has never been a problem for me but it can be for some folks' dishes and kitchenware. Always a good idea to take some of your pots and dishes to a showroom and see how various DW's layouts work or do not work for you....See Morerakerambo
