This is somewhat embarrassing...
Comments (42)The best thing about a plant addiction is that it is self-limiting. As the number of plants increases, eventually you run out of space, time, or energy. And even if you don't, the plants have a way of declining as they compete for limited windowsill spots, or when they are so close together that the bugs have a little highway to zip from pot to pot. So, unless you are unusually involved, there is likely to be some natural attrition. I'm addicted to plants, no doubt about it. But I tend to cycle and collect plants in a certain family. After several years, I've mastered the culture for those, or else I've decided they don't work well in my conditions or they are simply too darn fussy. Then I give them away, or throw them out, or leave them outside too long in the fall until they freeze. After about a year, I start obsessing with a new plant family. My first love was african violets. Then big foliage plants to fill space when I was younger and couldn't afford much furniture. Then fancy foliage plants after I started working for a plant company and fell in love with all the exotic, expensive ones! Then pond plants. Then hibiscus. Currently getting into orchids. I can really relate to marquest's comment, "I have to own every plant at least once before I die." I guess I'll live a long time!...See MoreA classic - yet mildly embarrassing - comment
Comments (13)CGM is possibly the best organic fert to mess with people. It's bright orange color looks dangerous, and the amount applied as a pre-M makes it look REALLY dangerous. We have several dog-walkers that will only pickup the "deposits" if you happen to be watching them and so I have little love of these particular neighbors. When I was laying down CGM this past spring I figured it was a good way to keep them away for a couple days. I tested my drop setting on the sidewalk between the street and my property and overspread a bit on either end of my property line. It was hysterical to see walkers of baby and dog suddenly turn off the sidewalk into the street and give me a look. No one actually said anything, but I didn't need to clean up any "business" that week. :) I was waiting for someone to pipe up about poisoning animals/people and walk over and grab a pinch, but it never happened, and probably for the better. I would prefer them to all think its hazardous pesticides!...See MoreEmbarrassing to say...
Comments (27)Patty, when I think of you, I do not envision masses of Bermuda Grass. They are an inadequate ornament, a sub-par backdrop for a woman like you. They don't have your color, your warmth, your splendor as a person. Nope, I'm sorry to tell you but you need roses to be viewed in the proper setting. You with a garden of grass would be like a rare blue diamond set in aluminum. I know it is miserable, I'm so sorry it happened to you but I want you to get somebody to prune back those babies, pull out the timber, clear it away and just let the small bushes rest and grow. In six monthes when they are coming back you may be ready for them. People often look at my garden and say, so much work and I say it is what I love. My garden was only Bermuda grass when I moved here, bare and unfriendly. At one point the mailman said to me "your garden is so beautiful and because of it, the whole neighborhood is better." That is our gift, Patricia, to make the world more beautiful. Not everyone can. Whether you get two talents or ten, what you do with them is up to you. You got it girl. Despair and doubt are no friends of yours, don't you listen. love, la...See MoreI'd be embarrassed to list this house
Comments (50)Elpaso1, I live in Central Texas and it's something I've heard. I'm not a regular reader of this particular news outlet, but their article (linked below) speaks to what I've heard. I don't have first hand knowledge and apologize for not stating that to begin with. "While local politicians from San Diego to El Paso to the Rio Grande Valley routinely claim that their crime statistics are continuously low, in reality those statistics don’t account for federal crimes that took place in their city such as kidnappings, drug trafficking and other spillover crimes. The “safe” statistics are based off an outdated 1930’s model called UCR (Uniform Crime Report) that the FBI is trying to push out of operation because of the many holes it has." Why Claims of a ‘Safe Border’ are Wrong and Deceptive...See Moreaaaaaaaa
