Horrible Smell in Basement!
Comments (7)Unfortunately, the products you've been using will not eliminate pet odors......they just mask them. You need to use an enzyme product made for cleaning pet urine/feces. I've used the one below and it works. Most pet stores sell these enzymes and they're also sold online. Look for anything recommended by dog/cat kennels! In addition to using the enzyme I'd recommend you seal the concrete after it's thoroughly dry. That should take care of the odor in the concrete. If the cat has sprayed the walls and the odor has seeped into the wood then that odor will be a little more difficult to get rid of. The OdorMute listed below can be used on wood also so I'd probably spray all the walls and the floor during the cleaning. I'd strip the basement bare since it's possible the wood and fabric on any of the remaining furniture has absorbed the odor. While showing the house you should move the cats and their litter boxes to a spare bedroom or the garage and let the realtor know that no one is allowed in those rooms during showings because of pets. If you have a serious buyer, they will return to see the room they couldn't see on the first visit. When showing a home, it's important to remove the pet and as much of its stuff as possible. It doesn't matter that you keep the litter boxes clean if the cat has decided to do their business right before a buyer arrives to view the home. Plus, people who don't own pets often are more sensitive to odors that pet owners are accustomed to. Here is a link that might be useful: enzyme cleaner...See MoreDog question - do I need to see the vet?
Comments (11)Have no idea about the collie breed, only labs. lol At first read, it sounds very much like old age arthritis, but I don't know how old collie's usually live to before experiencing issues. My oldest boy, soon to be 11 no longer comes upstairs at bedtime, and seems to have alot of those type of days you are describing. While I am not going to my vet, I've had 3 old labs before Lowell, so I know the pattern all too well. If you are knowledgable about the breed and are comfortable, I think a call to your vet (assuming you have a longstanding relationship) to just let him/her know what's going on, and some suggestions of how to keep your dog more comfortable - meds. One thing that I do for my guy when it is particularly bad is give him either ascriptin (aspirin with maalox to coat the stomach) which was ok'd by the vet, or tramadol from the vet. I use my own judgment to assess the pain level after he's awake and had breakfast. I take him out and see what's what for the day. I always start with the Ascripton as the Tramadol is a true rx pain med. I wouldn't suggest doing this if you're not well versed with your dog's breed, or haven't been a dog owner for a long time. Let your vet be your guide. I totally agree about the cost - my late 13 yr. old girl was on 13 meds a day before we had to put her down. I told myself at that time that I would never again pay or provide so many meds to a dog. It's tough because you want to keep them going. I think if you visit the vet, one med you will be offered will be Deramax or similar med for arthritis. The are ridiculously expensive even with the coupons and checks back. I spent a small fortune on my girl. I look back and it makes me sick that the pharmaceutical cos. have now invaded pet care. I found that the Tramadol (less expensive) worked better and cost less JMHO. I always use the lowest dose and work upward should the stiffness persist. The lyme titer is smart. What most vets do not tell you is that the vaccine can give your dog lyme disease. We only do Advantix with yrly lyme titers. Treat if necessary. No lyme vaccinations for our guys. Its so tough watching our best friends age. I hope it's nothing serious, just the natural arthritis that can come with aging in some breeds....See MoreDog park behavior embarrassing
Comments (26)it’s definitely something we have to keep working on! i try to warn people and correct when he goes to do it so thankfully he hasn’t been too successful. the belly band is just there so that if he’s sneaky about one it isn’t actually an issue. the one guy i was talking about actually does think its funny LOL. most people are most definitely just polite, the one is a regular so i see him pretty often and he regularly tells me it’s a dog park and that i should just let him be free. he is a great dane though, so he gets people high up which is so so much more embarrassing🤦🏼♀️😂 we actually took a break from the dog park for a bit to work on some training so that corrections would stick a little more. he’s been good all week but today he got someone again. sigh. back to helicopter parenting 🤣...See MoreMy little dog died 9 days ago. Comments (14)Hello everybody, Unfortunately, I am having a relapse triggered by a family fight I had today. As I mentioned in my first post, my relationship with my mom is not good and she is very disrispectful with my stuff and has thrown away very special things to me. Things that I really treasured. Today, I picked up a carped that my mom had removed almost a year ago. She wanted to throw it away, but the carpet was in good condition and I liked it, so I took it to a place to have it washed and storaged. Today I finally got it back home and put it behind a wall in my living room. It was well hidden and it wasn't taking too much room. My mom saw it and started acting like crazy and told me she was going to throw it away tomorrow. I got angry and she started telling me that I had my stuff all over the house, which is not true, and then mentioned that the fact I put my little dog's stuff, like his plate and little bones in the laundry room was a problem for her to. This made me get very angry and I went down the stairs because I wanted to make sure my dog's stuff were safe. suddenly, my uncle, who was at home for a visit, stood up and got between me and my mother because according to him he thought I was going to hit my mom, which is a terrible lie. He dared me to fight and I told him I was not going to accept his attitude in my house. Then he asked me to go outside and I said: OK. Let's go. Next, my brother showed up and my mom to avoid the fight. Then my brother told me he didn't want to fight because he was much heavier than me and that it was going to be easy for him. I said: Come on, let0's do it. And he refused it and said he loved me. Ever since my parents divorced he has interfered in many of my family's issues that are not concer of his and sometimes he has tried to act like the man of the house. Today was the last straw and made me lose my mind. He has brainwashed my mom several times, my mom almost always does what he tells her to do and of course, he usually takes my moms side. All this conflict made me have a psychiological crisis and miss my little dog a lot since I feel very alone again and I have no friend and partner at home to rely on. I really didn't need this since I was starting to feel better about the loss of my beautiful Guyton, to heal, to rearrange my life without suffering too much and feel more peace. On top of that, my Psychiatrist took the liberty to show my mom and my brother my diagnosis file after a visit my mom and my brother made to his office, which was a terrible violation to my privacy and to the confidentiality respect Mental professionals have to have. It's the most basic and important rule. Now, my mom is using this as a weapon and threatening me to send me to a mental hospital because my Psychiatrist also told her and my brother she could do that. It is just unbelievable. He betrayed me and put me in a very difficult position. Specially now that I am trying to overcome the death of my little dog and my mind is unstable. It just looks he also took my brother's and mom's side and they are their patiens not me. Now I am missing Guyton a lot again and their loss became bigger again too. I am lost and sad again. I really hope you can reply to me. Thank you very much in advance for your help and kindness...See Moretlbean2004
