Since I can't save money here by DIY, it's time to sell a bunch of stuff around here I don't need any more. When I'm done with that I should make some things to sell. But it's sure good to be able to do for ourselves, isn't it? I'm so impressed by all the reupholstery you've done. You're a real whirlwind! Seems we never have enough of any of them, doesn't it? Your post is a great reminder to use what we have before we lose it. It's funny how a bunch of things we thought when we were younger didn't turn out to be so true, isn't it? 20-20 hindsight doesn't do much good. Mona ~~ That was beautiful fabric, wasn't it? I had fabric for the f.c. already. But I bought the other fabric because it looked so good, and also thick and sturdy as that piece wouldn't do in curtain weight. It arrived and didn't look anything like the computer picture. I was a fool to not order a swatch. I'm hoping I can sell it and recoup some of my loss. I'm going to go with my original fabric. It doesn't seem to photograph well, but when I laid it across my newly upholstered red sofa it absolutely sang with richness and beauty. I really like it. Thanks for your comments about the gimp. I'll think about learning to live with it if I can't find a good way to fix it. Are you going to be buying that Waverly and using it on something? Igloo ~~ that's an interesting story. It must have been heartbreaking when your lovely piece got damaged in the move. I don't blame you for wanting to warn perspective buyers. Your honesty and decency are admirable. Now, can we set up a way to warn other women about a particular man? Nikii ~~ No kidding! The never-ending recalls are scary. I don't remember things ever being this bad before. Someone in power isn't allocating money for enforcement. I'll think of you when I'm eating dog food at my antique table and raise my glass of water in a toast to you! I have a link to a chart of which dog foods are best if you're interested. hehe Amy ~~ haha. I don't know where you heard that. It's my understanding in the days when fainting couches came into fashion women wore enormously heavy skirts with about 15 yards of fabric in them, and whalebone corsets cinched in so tight they couldn't breathe. Think of Mammy cinching up Scarlett O'Hara in that corset. They aimed for an 18" waist on an adult women! All that cinching shoved one's internal organs around and caused deformity that sometimes caused complications with childbirth. I learned from a woman who collected and sold antique garments that those "Cinderella" type skirts were so heavy that they were not attached to the bodice. They would have ripped the stitching right out. She showed me where the bodice was a separate piece. Can you imagine being dressed in all that on a hot summer day instead of your shorts and sandals? You bet they fainted!

OUCH, Oceanna. You poor thing. Sounds like you need some real egg nog for that toe. :o) I'm sorry the fabric didn't work out. :o( It looked PERFECT on my monitor. Drat. I've had that happen too, and have finally learned to take the time to order a sample swatch. It took me many, many times of disappointment to learn though! So you are a smart cookie to figure it out after one shot! Hope the drapes work out well, but as you mentioned, Penney's is great about returns. And now that you know they have swatches, you can compare what else is available to really compliment your chosen fabrics if you decide to return the others. I didn't know they had swatches there, but was wondering about the silk panels I saw on another thread on here. Now that I know I might be able to see a swatch, that is very tempting. Merry Christmas to me, maybe?! :o) LOL! HOpe your toe feels better, and doesn't actually fall off. Hope it decides to hang in there with you! :o) My thumb was smashed in a door as a child, and it did actually fall off. Eeeks. It did eventually grow back. Looks as good as new. LOL! :o) I'll watch for photos of your fainting couch. I really like your red velvet pieces, so it will be great to see the room coming together for you!!

Well, I've never been pregnant past the first trimester, and it's been eons since the last time I was pregnant (I was spayed in '91), so I'm no help there... But, I have fainted several times. And always in church. The last time was when I was in high school (and that was last Century!). I am Catholic, and my fainting in church was a direct result of not being able to eat anything before taking Communion. And we always seemed to go to 11:00 or noon Mass, so I would have been without food since an evening snack the night before. I would think that your not having eaten anything before these almost-fainting spells would be a strong factor.

I can't say for certain but it looks as though it is Colonial Revival. We had a sofa that was a bit like that which dated from the 1950's. There were foam cushions which sat on wood slat supports - wasn't the most comfortable piece of furniture :-). Because furniture like this was made during during many decades, it's difficult to date without looking at construction - Colonial Revival was also popular prior to WW II. FWIW, grandmothers sometimes bought new furniture so just because a piece was owned by a grandmother doesn't mean that she bought it when she was 20. Conversely, a grandmother could have bought something used which was made before she was born :-).
