Anyone have BlueStar 36in. drop-in cooktop or Bosch 36in. cooktop
Comments (10)I've got the Bluestar 36" drop in and love it. When you say you're not worried about open vs sealed burners, do you mean you don't prefer one over the other? If so, consider the following questions... 1. Are you interested in even heat distirbution? 2. Are you going to do any wok cooking? 3. Do you want the heat to go into the pan rather than wasted up the sides? 4. Do you want to use your 8-12" pan, skillet, or pot on your high btu burner? These are just a few of the things that the Bluestar excels at due to their open burner design. I don't believe any other company has a pro level open burner drop-in cooktop. Only you can determine what you think you'll be happy with but I am certainly happier with my Bluestar then I ever was with the sealed burner cooktop I had before. IMHO, the question of "Bluestar vs. anyone else" *is* by definition a question of open vs sealed when it comes to cooktops. Good luck and happy cooking....See More1200cfm oversized hood...Overkill for 30" BlueStar range?
Comments (47)Well, "any" is potentially a very small amount, and I'm sure that there is some slight amount. My attic, however, is vented all around the periphery, at the ridge, and also with an attic fan housing. Ice dams at the roof edges tend to occur when the outside air warms up during the day and heats the snow bottom up through the vents instead of top down. In my present half-completed configuration, the ~ 2 x 2 ft heat exchanger sits above a Cooley and Hart 3 x 3 diffuser in a hall ceiling. There is a furnace filter taped down on top of the heat exchanger. This style of filter (Honeywell Filtrete) needs significant pressure drop to move much air through it, and I was pleased to observe that warm air doesn't seem to rise through it in the winter, or hot attic air settle through it in the summer. The sides of the heat exchanger and its plumbing are buried in insulation. When kitchen fans are running and the house is closed up, air is pulled through and the thermostats, the larger-than-typical-size Taco pump, and the furnace controls do their thing to heat the air. (The circuit is capable of well over 100k BTU/hr depending on furnace and air temperature.) The problem, as I have pointed out a few times here, is that pulling air through a filter and heat exchanger requires a pressure drop -- a drop too large for combustion appliance safety. My only combustion appliance is an oil furnace, and it now uses its own MUA system to avoid back-drafting. Nevertheless, if I were to run both kitchen fans at once at full power expecting all flow to be made up through the heat exchanger without fan boost (possibly 1400 actual cfm with restricted MUA), the pressure drop in the house causes some furnace exhaust to be pulled into the house via tiny cracks not normally relevant when there is a positive draft, so I don't do dat without an opened window. My intention is to duct the heat exchanger to a mushroom air intake already installed on my roof via an axial in-line fan and a four-inch pleated filter caddy so that at the maximum possible flow rate (possibly 2000 cfm, say) the house pressure can be balanced and all the MUA comes from outside without mingling with the attic air. A damper may be needed, although as noted, the Filtrete coating will be pretty resistant to air passage without some deliberate pressure drop from the in-line fan. kas...See MoreBlueStar Cooktop and Ovens - NEW thread
Comments (3)pretty sure a BluStar 36" cooktop is the right upgrade in a NE rural country cottage. 1) Seems that 6 burners is more practical than grill? (I love havg 5 burners on my not-so-great Thermador drop in unit in Manhattan...and often use 5... but moreover the way it lets you space out larger pots). 2) Wd a BS propane version perfrm as well as natl gas? 3) any suggested vendors for RI or Southeastern Mass (Attleboro) or quiet corner CT (Pomfret/Danielson/ Putnam) PS I read Blue STar 24 thread and a couple of older ones in entirety. and thank you all for generous sharing. PPS may b this isn't the best thread to ask: 4) any one installed the new BS 30" oven??? by way of backgrd: had actually preselected DCS 2 yrs back (this renovation is delayed!!!) b/c of the infrared broiler + convection features. But maybe that is not the best brand...seems that an odd assortment of vendors carry it Am ok with having elect oven (espec for the cleaning cycle) tho' i like gas in general. Not a master baker so dont know if elec v gas is a factor for that. Gas of course lets you broil in the old fashioned way....See MoreNeed hood advice for 30' bluestar w/limited space
Comments (4)Thanks very much for the recommendation guadalupe! I'll take a closer look after work. Unfortunatly, the 7" hole is not centered above the hood, but I think I can make some type of exstension to cover the ducting. I took a quick look at that model and have to admit I've not read anything good or bad about those fans and oil cups that need to be emptied. Sounds kind of like a hybrid VAH in a way. Thought I would go with a baffle type filter, but I'll have to look into this style. I wonder about the 22" depth too. Do you have this type or have any experience with it? Thanks again!...See Morehomepro01
