New Kitchen Appliance Review

This summer/fall we built an addition for our home to house a new kitchen and dining room. We are very pleased with the results and I thought I'd take a few minutes to review the appliances we went with.

Refrigerator/Freezer: Frigidaire Pro 17 all-frig/all-freezer pair. We are extremely pleased with their look and function. Installed with the trim kit they look like they cost a fortune but we spent $2200 including the trim kit. They ARE NOT the same as the Kenmore twins. They are superficially the same but do not have the same insulation, compressor, and are not energy star rated like these. After three months we've had no issues. The frig is very cold, and the freezer works fine. People stop in their tracks when they see them.

Wall-Oven: Bosch HBL8650UC 30" double wall-oven. The oven looks great, and cooks exceptionally well on every mode. We use it for everything between proofing and baking bread, to broiling pork chops. It does, however, have a few quirks we don't love. It's interface actually has a pretty steep learning curve, and the insulation on the temperature probe cable has already cracked exposing the wire within after only a few uses. Not huge deals for us. We are overall very pleased.

Dacor DRT308 30" gas range-top: We were extremely pleased to discover this 30" range-top. It is sealed which is the death sentence for many of you here, but we find it cooks so superior to anything we've had in the past we don't care to spend more on an open burner unit. Each burner simmers very well, and the stacked power burner boils water far quicker than we were used to. Very pleased. People think they're stylish as heck as well.

Viking VGGT 30" griddle: It's Viking so naturally it has issues. for whatever reason, no matter how clean you keep the grease trap (not the hole that goes down to the slide out grease pan, just the part at the bottom of the griddle that you initially scrape stuff into)it smokes upon pre-heat mode. This is because the thermostatically controlled igniter are just below it and get volcanically hot and ANYTHING that is over them smokes. It's annoying. Other than that we love using this thing. It's like having a restaurant grill in your home. It's quite large and you can do a family size number of eggs, bacon and sausage at the same time, or do a bunch of pancakes, etc... We've had teppanyaki night as well doing fried rice, shrimp etc... it's very versatile. I'm gonna call to see about the smoking issue.

Dishwasher: Frigidaire Pro. Not sure the model. Stainless inside and out. Large capacity. Food dispenser, both passive dry and heat elem. Washes dishes very well, no complaints at all.
