Your Aloe looks fine. It's got its suntan on! Aloe vera, like many Aloes, will take on a brownish hue when exposed to direct sun. As long as you move it out gradually, it shouldn't hurt the plant. If you prefer to have it green, just cut back on the light exposure, and the new growth will be greener for you.

You have a fairly classic layout. Some might suggest swapping the fridge and hutch, but I think it's fine. A few points: 1. What's in the hutch/appliance garage? You need a place for your toaster and coffee maker, and I hope that's it, away from the prep area. Otherwise they're going to end up in the corner, the worst possible place for them. 2. Or is that the MW in there? If it is I'd think about an under counter or drawer MW in the island near the fridge instead. 3. Are you paneling the side of your fridge? I would, if it's facing the great room or dining room. A full view of a tilted-back fridge isn't so nice. 4. Do you have any other place for a water source? I know L-shaped kitchens with islands are supposed to be super efficient. However, I find guests have a tendency to nestle in the only corner, delusionally believing they are "out of the way." And people also run for water right behind the cook at the stove. Easiest fix is water in the fridge, but a bar or prep-type sink could also be useful.

I would rather see the stove stay where it is, and the fridge go on the short wall with a panel built on the outside end to hide it. The panel could have a bulletin board and message center with a small shelf below, or even hooks for hanging things, or a collage of family photos, so that it would be interesting when viewed from the entry. I would rather see that than see the fridge head on where the stove is, and then you also have the issues of everything else being blocked when you open the doors. If it is on the end, you can re-hang the doors to open the other way so that they are never in the way of others in the kitchen area. I could see a pantry down near the windows, and a great island in the middle with an overhang on the living room side so that people could sit there and enjoy the view out of the large window. Laughing at the current cabinets - those are what I have in my kitchen!

How wonderfully creative. Too bad they don't last longer than a cake. So much work for something that is only temporary. I wonder if anyone eats them or they just enjoy looking at them.
