My biggest tomato is this monster Pineapple. I picked it along with 6 others, not quite as big the same day off 5 plants. It weighed in at 2.25 pounds.

My biggest have been Giant Belgium and Earl's Faux.

Some Indian Stripe and Paul Robeson have been big too.

Chris Ukrainian, 40 oz. The taste was not very good, and it had semi-hollow seed cavities. I think it was slightly overripe.

I don't grow or prune to get huge tomatoes but I like huge tomatoes! My biggest this year were a couple of Porterhouse's at just a touch over 2 pounds.

My all time record is a Big Zac from 2003 shown below that was slightly over 3 pounds:

Largest of the season was a 35oz Brandywine-Sudduths which was uncharacteristic of the plant. Largest average size was Red Penna (19 oz) and Ashleigh (17 oz). Which put several 1.5-2 lb fruits on those plants.

My largest of this season was a 2 lb Rhoades Heirloom.

Big Zac, 44 oz. Also a 36-oz. Porterhouse. Both were very tasty also. I'm hooked on growing BIG tomatoes now! In terms of total wieght of tomatoes, six plants growing giant tomatoes out-produced 50 plants growing standard tomatoes.

My biggest was KBX,several over 2 lbs

My year was not so hot as we had problems with weather and late blight. I did have quite a few over 3 pounds but did not reach 4. My goal was 5 pounds. However, Nick Harp in Massillon, Ohio grew a 7.18 pound tomato and his wife had one over 5 pounds. These were both grown from a Big Zac F3 seed from a 5.58 pound tomato grown in 2008 by Brandt Timm in Pembroke, Ontario. Needless to say, both those seeds are in demand by the giant tomato growers.

I dont grow for size but my biggest tomato this spring was a Summer Cider that weighed 1 lb. 6 oz. and it came from a plant that only produced 20 tomatoes but 6 of those were over a pound with several 12oz plus fruit as well

I did not weigh any, but my biggest was a Kellogg's Breakfast and the flavor was excellent.

I had a pineapple that was 1.12 oz at the market one week. I know because the lady bought it by the pound for $1.50 per lb. I was happy! I didn't think anyone would want such a large tomato by the pound. I guess you never know.
I had a couple that were bigger than that, but I saved them for seed and never weighed them because they had small soft spots on the bottom-not marketable.

Do big tomatoes have less taste than the smaller ones?

Are the big tomatoes more watery and harder to use in sauces?

Thanks - this is my 2nd year growing tomatoes, so I'm new to it, and love making red pasta sauce from scratch.

Big tomatoes are just like the smaller ones on the same plant. Flavor depends on variety and growing conditions. The dryer paste tomato varieties tend not to have the sweetness and rich flavor of "eating" tomatoes. Eating tomatoes make excellent sauce you just have to cook them down a bit longer.

I get several fruits at and just over over 2 lbs each year (1 kg) from various varieties. I haven't seen a 3 pounder yet. Consistent varieties for me with multiple large fruits are Great white, Red Penna, Ashleigh, and Tom's Yellow Wonder, although Brandywine Sudduth gave me my largest fruit last year, most of its fruits were 12-16oz.

What that is, is a way some are using to keep track of seeds. Take the first tomato listed. 4.83 refers to the weight in pounds of the tomato. Perry is the name of the grower. 09 is the year grown. UOW means unofficial weight as was not weighed at a sanctioned weighoff or otherwise officially. The rest relates to where the seed that grew the tomato came from and this was a 5.58 pound tomato grown by Timm. What does everyone think of this system being used to name tomatoes? And their seeds? The Timm tomato was a Big Zac F3 and so the tomato in question, the 4.83 Peery, is actually a Big Zac F4.

A supersteak was close to two pounds, but flavorless. Had a couple big tasty ones on jerrys german giant, but didnt weigh them.

My largest from '09 was a megabloom Aunt Ruby's German Green. It weighed in at 1 lb. 12.8 oz. If I could figure out how to post a picture, I would....
