Denise, I have been taking advantage of this warm up we've had. It could stay this way as far as I'm concerned LOL. I'm not one that cares for cold weather. I moved some plants around today and puttered the whole day away, it was great.
Hope we don't get hit with a freeze now that I moved plants around. One was a Mexican mint that I love but every year my dog stomps it to the ground and every year I think I'm going to move it to a better place and today I did.....YEAH....
Other thing's I moved were two daylilies that needed more sun, some of the short Mexican Petunia's.
This is a long growing season, my elephant ears are still going like gang busters.
Last winter we had some long warm days and some of my plants started spouting up then we'd get hit with freezing or below weather. Hope that doesn't happen this year.

Anybody remember that cold snap in December 2005? It was very warm in the high 80s, even 90*F then a few days later, it dropped to 14*F in my area! Pretty much ruined my newly planted azaleas and others...

I'm not too worried about a cold snap since the weather forcast says when we do have a cool front come through the high temps will drop down to the low 70's this week, then start to creep back up again. As long as the things I moved have been in their new home for a week or more, they should be okay. Mulch will also help protect them, so I do need to get some mulch this week since this is a new bed. Right now I am throwing fallen leaves in the area. Those will blow away, but mulch will stay in place.

Me, I'm ready for the cold! I'm six months pregnant and I'm frickin' HOT! In the smelly, sweaty way, not in the good way. And since I'm off-season from the last time I had a kid, all my maternity stuff is for winter! My husband says I have to give his shirts back soon ... -_- Meanie.

I had family in from Ohio this weekend. Boy were they glad to see this weather!

I ordered some more gift Amaryllis yesterday. The woman who took the order said they would ship according to the weather. They don't put these bulbs in a truck that might be left overnight in freezing temperatures. That usually translates as shipping early in the week so they can drive through winter and overnight in spring temps. I said, "Oh, I forgot it is winter in other places." She said, "Yes, it's here all right."

Re pruning. As my brother from OH mentioned that my plants could use some pruning, I said, "Don't worry, if this weather follows the last few years, they will be toast by the end of the first week in December!"

Barb, I'm with you, I could keep these plants all year long and these temps too! Tally....move over, here we come if we can find garden trucks big enough to hold us and the plants.

Might as well get used to it. It is likely to continue into the future. The downside is.....if it doesn't rain a lot, we will fry during the summer.

Last Feb. I was able to work outside quite a bit. That was nice to get a little ahead of clean up but the clean up didn't last long. Seems every time I turned around I needed to weed more but couldn't cause of rain.
Being a native Texan I'm use to the weather, I'm just not use to gardening in it till the last three years. This summer will be four years wow can't believe it's been that long.
First two year's I went through the drought and the first year was hard cause everything was new, the next year wasn't to bad, the third year was great not having to water every time I turned around.
I am hoping for a really good year in 2008. I've made some changes and added beds.
Today I had to clean house POO.... but I did manage to get outside long enough to plant my two paperwhites bulbs :) hope I'm not to late.
Julie, I'm sorry your having to put up with the heat. I lived in Colorado when I was pregnant so the heat didn't bother me.
My poor daughter gained 60 or so pounds with her daughter and she was pregnant the whole summer, grand daughter was born Sept. 12th. She went through the same with her son his BD is Oct 10th.

I have a new daylily with buds on it and I want to see it bloom darn it.

Love this weather! Just harvested some cherry tomatoes as well as one "regular-size" tomato this AM from DH's plants that struggled through the summer. The fruit is small but ever so sweet!

They're really setting out the fruit and more blossoms now. We'll have to cover them though for a night or two later this week.

Looks like it will be a little frosty for Friday morn for parts of the Hill Country. Radiational cooling and no breeze sounds like some areas of freeze. Just heard the longer term forcast and looks like an an artic front for Thankgiving day (the coldest of the season so far):. Might be some precip with it which we all know what that means snow but more likely ice. Still too far out yet but by early in the coming week should have a good idea what is what.
Course last night they weren't talking into the 30's for Friday now they are, so be a watching and get prepared we is in fer a blow and real cool down this week and sounds maybe worse next week.

Thanks, David, we know it "is acomin' ", but I am NEVER ready for freezing weather --- and I do mean NEVER !!!! I still have a few things to move in, which I can, hopefully, get done today, and then I can sit inside by the warm fire and laugh at MN.

where did you hear about freezing weather for next week? I just looked up 10 day forecast on weather.com and didn't see anything about freezing weather. I really hope it isn't the case because I'd be driving back to Dallas from Houston the day after thanksgiving with the kid and dog all by myself...

Heard it last night on KSAT from Steve Brown a local San Antonio TV station. He is a gardener like us as well as an old timer weather forcaster that pays attention to stuff coming out of the artic. Which is where all those nasties come barrelling down on us come from. It is long term and will need revisions as we get closer. He as a gardener has done a better job of calling those northern fronts over the last 12 years than anyone one including the useless weather channel and other such supposed experts. I hope he doesn't retire any time soon because he is the best IMHO.
Hope all is better than this but better be ready than sorry.

I am pulling in Hibs for tonight at home and closed up the greenhouse at work and put the electric milk can heaters on for the night. I will have propane heaters going next week if this forcast holds true.

I heard on the evening news they think there is a chance for bad weather for Thanksgiving day but said to stay tuned next week they'll know more then LOL.
It's not like anything new for us but does not happen often.

Lou, I have heard for two days now about the expected cold front coming down the pike for Wednesday night before Thanksgiving. It is predicted to bring rain and strong winds.

Ice in one dish on the deck this morn by 5am and none in a bucket about 15 feet away on the north side go figure. Basil shriveled and a few others that are somewhat tender seemed to do okay. Hibiscus and others are back out on the deck til Tuesday or Wednesday depending on how serious and when this next front comes thru.

My Brugs are getting a bit wilted with this weather. I keep thinking I should take cuttings soon but have just not had the gardening time. Personally I love the fact that it's getting a bit cool but it just drives me nuts that it can be in the 50's one day and the 80's the next. The flipping back and forth is just dang annoying!!
