darn squirrels again!
Comments (15)I live in an area where buying a pellet gun or setting traps I'd be up my ears in dead squirrels within a week with more left to kill. Oddly, i live IN the city and not a rural area. The thing is I live in a place bordering one of the largest green areas for a few miles. The squirrel population is extraordinary. At almost any point during the day you see huge families cutting back/forth. Very few seem to actually live near my garden, but this squirrel community is so expansive they seem to be able to scour huge amounts of territory without fighting for the territory. I don't know if squirrels tribe up or anything, but around here I'd have to control my garden instead of the squirrels. The squirrels are firmly in charge here. hehe... I haven't had an issue with them being huge pests in 3 years here...until this year. This year they have developed a really huge appetite for tomatoes. Rather than losing a handful every flush I'm getting plants stripped bare as far as they can reach. Oh well......See MoreDarn Squirrel!
Comments (9)If you have a cat all U have to do is brush you cat with a curry comb and save the hair. or better just shut you cat up in there PRIOR TO THE PATH. If the tree rat comes back kitty will see that it leaves quick. plan B: put the cat hair near and around the hole. I don't have tree rats or chipmunks thanks to the Dawg. If you don't want to kill them don't, let the cat do what cats do I love to watch her on a hunt. She will lay still for hours on end waiting for the chipmunks to come out of the blackberry patch. Even with only three legs they don't have a chance. 1eyedJack and the DAwg...See MoreDarn squirrels digging divots in my mulch!
Comments (6)This is mean but I sprinkle cayenne pepper when I plant bulbs they do not dig. The lawn people they work for me they break it they buy it. Once they have to pay me they no longer break, cut, damage anything in my garden. I wish I could give those same rules to the deer and groundhogs. I stomped my feet at the deer the other day and she stomped her feet back at me and kept eating. Hit her with a rock she left and came back with her friends....See Moresquirrel proofing suet feeders
Comments (6)Keilamarie, Now that's a suet feeder!! Short of building one myself (it's not patent pending is it? :), you did give me a good idea. I think you're right about the back feet. I was watching one of the little bastards on the suet this morning (I forgot to put out peanuts) and he was clinging on with his back feet and holding the suet basket with both front paws while he chewed away at the corners of the suet. Seeing your contraption made me realize that if I cover the sides of the suet basket with something (strips of wood perhaps), they won't be able to get a mouthful since it appears that they actually chew around the corner bars. I actually have a suet basket hanging from the trunk of my maple in the front yard just outside one of the upper windows. After scaring the squirrel away, I went and threw some cayenne pepper on the suet cake. My neighbours can't see the basket since it's on the house side of the tree, so I'm sure if anyone saw me it will be dinner table discussion tonight. "Honey, the new neighbour was sprinkling red powder on the tree again!!?? And he was talking to himself...he looked mad."...See More- 12 years ago
