Fake Bird sound

My neighbor has a speaker in their window making fake bird sounds...VERY LOUD and annoying! Every minute it goes off all day long. I notice they also have lots of birds in their trees in front of house.

What is this sound? Why do they do this? Are they repelling something? or encouraging more birds? Should I confront them and ask them to stop this sound? It echos thru the neighborhood...thanks...

I know they sell a CD to attract birds in general. I can't think of what it's called at the moment. Does your neighbor have a Purple Martin house up? A lot of people trying to attract Martins will play a CD called the Dawn Song, or Daytime chatter to attract them. I wonder if you could ask if they could turn it down a bit. These songs do not need to be loud to attract the desired birds.

we have a Chuck Wills Widow that we hear every night for the past few years ... could this possibly be what you heard? Under the tab that says SOUND you can click the button to hear the call. The Towhees around here-East Tennessee-certainly sing the "Drink" part of their song, also the "Tea" part-sometimes written as towhee. This am I heard "Drink, drink, drink....long pause...your tea" Then just "drink drink..." I think it's a little later in the year when I hear the "tea" or "towhee" part alone. Right now I have an Eastern Wood Peewee that repeats "pee-oh-wee" over & over & it's kinda mournful sounding. He sings from a cedar tree in a small cemetary across the road & it seems fitting somehow. Susan
