camarogirl219, I am so very sorry for your loss. That's a lot of years for you to pack into a single goodbye, I know. My heart aches for you and Daisy, who must be traumatized and disoriented by the loss of her bud. I suspect that the addition of a new feline might be a difficult adjustment for her, but I do think it would be best for her in the long run. I would NOT, however, recommend adopting a male feline UNLESS you find an older adult who is known to be laid back and to live peacefully with other cats. Male kittens and young adults tend to be VERY rowdy, demanding, and rough and relentless in their play. I think that might be completely overwhelming for Daisy. But an older, mellow, well socialized boy might make a wonderful companion for her after the initial adjustment period. A young female kitten might also be a good choice of companion, as they don't tend to be nearly as overwhelming as males. And Daisy might find it easier to accept a young kitten, since she will not see the kitten as either a territorial or physical threat. An adult female probably isn't the best choice, though, as they tend not to bond with other adult females with whom they have not been raised. Our 14+yo cat yowls at different times, often when she has just woken up from a nap, and at night. We have recently become aware that she is going deaf. She also has only one good eye(the other was damaged when she was a kitten), and she has early CRF(but thyroid is still ok). We had to give her up to a shelter for about 9 months, and when we got her back, she had started the yowling. She will walk around our(tiny)apartment, acting like she is lost, and we have to carefully let her know we are there, so as not to startle her.Sometimes, during the night, she will race up to my pillow and "rreow, rreow, rreow" in my face until I wake up and reassure her, then she will settle down again. I don't think I've had a good night's sleep since she's been back with us LOL, but I wouldn't have it any other way. We want her to be as comfortable as she can be for the time she has left with us. It is interesting though, to watch her sit in front of an open closet door, and yowl at it, as if to say "is anybody in there?". We still have some boxes in there that we moved with and I wonder if she can smell the other cats we used to have and is wondering where they are.

It's good there's no hissing/growling or seriously nasty behaviour from the kitten. Give it a bit of time, and they'll work it out among themselves. Yes, give him a time-out if he acts too crazy; I sometimes throw a small cushion just to distract the resident hooligan Jas-purr when he gets Coco's neck in his jaws n she screams as if she's dying LOL Two of our older cats are OK with the kittens; Nikita (who wud dive under the duvet whenever she saw a new kitten around) now mostly ignores them/hisses at them/sometimes bathes them; Max (17lb) plays with them, then sits on them, but they're 6 months old now and can get away from him, and we know he means no harm. Now Simba **sigh** - I hate to see him looking for new places to hide from the terrors - he growls, hisses, swats at them all the time. And now that they're all grown up, these two don't think twice about jumping on his back as he passes under the chair on which they lie in wait. If they bother him too much, I give them a time-out for 10 mins. But these days they're getting to know the routine so well that the minute I clap and say OK guys, time-out! they actually run to their room, heads held high and tails swishing - probably thinking oh yeah, the mad witch just has to spoil the fun LOL Plasticgarden, how did you help your cat get used to the kitten eventually? Simba doesn't hiss/growl/swat at us, only at the lil ones, and I don't like it that he can't be at peace with these guys around. Feliway worked for a while, but didn't calm him down enough to stop hissing and growling.

Thanks to you all, our boys do rule the roost! What Nita isn't telling you is that we have a colony on the patio as well. A few years ago a stray showed up, a gray tabby who has had a hard life. Someone was very mean to her, she fears hands, hoses and anything attached to a stick. We've been working on her and can only hope that we can capture her to have her spayed, so far she has avoided the live trap. She has had 3 litters, 3 of the now adults live on the porch (we had 2 neutered)one of which sometimes comes in, Baby Girl in the photo was born in April, and now 3 that were born in June (yep, she carried two litters). Baby is at the vet, we pick her up this afternoon, she was spayed. The boys are Maine Coons, Bob and Moose are 5 years old, biological brothers from Maine Coon Cattery outside Cleveland, Dude is 7 and hails from McKittycreek in Erie, PA. He was a great match for us because Sue also has exotic birds, but was an only child so he feels he is above all the other cats. I love Maine Coon cats...or any cat!! LOL!!!
