San Antonio Botanical Garden Plant Sale Photos ...

The big attraction for us today was the fabulous PLANT SALE, but a lot of people came out to see the Lego sculptures advertised on "Phoenix" Joey's T-shirt ...

Here comes Mary Irish, who is in charge of the plant sale. She's the author or several books and has a wealth of knowledge about plants and their characteristics that she is very willing to share ...

Joey and Patty ...

The plants were staged in a large field with plenty of knowledgeable and helpful volunteers, including young people to carry the plants to your car ...

What to do with a dead tree? Paint it! Very beautiful ...

In this magical garden you don't know what's going to happen next. Patty got shrunk ....

And then they put her to work!

The Lego sculptures were very impressive. Patty took pictures of those. Believe it or not the sign above is made of Legos. After viewing the full size animal sculptures made of Legos you and the kids can try your hand at doing it yourself right inside the palm tower.

We had a great day walking the whole garden. It was cool, literally :-)

There will be another plant sale in November with (oh boy!) VOLUME discounts. Hope to see you there.

Re: The white lilies - whether they're crinum americanum or erubescens. I have a similar plant that a woman near Tyler wanted removed from her garden. I sent a query to a bulb group I'm on to see if they could ID them (all I knew is they were stoloniferous and bloomed white, like the photo above). Here is the reply I received: "When you next get a bloom, check to see if the stalk has a reddish cast to it = erubescens. Crinum americanum will grow in ordinary flower beds, but doesn't flower as much as it would have in a moister setting."

The next San Antonio Botanical Garden sale will be in conjunction with Bootanica, October 25, so mark your calendars.

Aukumar, hopefully someone will post about botanical garden plant sales in your area when they come up. Check out the Exchanges Forums for plant swaps.
