Tracey, I took a picture of the setup. I tried to get everything. The nest is middle left with camera partly visible behind it. The eaves of the roof protect it. I place the server just inside the window to the right. I put it outside at first and it promptly rained so I moved it. Here is a link that might be useful:

Hi Cathy. I agree about the piece of wood. I just went out and removed it and will watch to see if it makes any difference to the blues. I may have to put a thin metal strip across the front to keep the door from closing too much. I must admit I hadn't thought of a better escape route for the BBs. I was hoping to get a shot of two or more of them peeking out on fledge day. With the round hole it's hard to see more than one at a time, although, if I recall, Kenn has shots that do. Hi Harold. Hope you are well. Actually, those images were shot at 1/5000sec. I always set it high when I am trying for action shots, to be sure to stop the wings. Probably at that distance I could have gotten by at 1/800. Dave

I would have to learn a bunch to figure out how to get one working.. but it would be fun. Suggestion: I keep the birdcam window up, and just resize all my other computer program windows so I any activity will catch my eye. Every once in a while I have to hit F5 to refresh it.. I've seen her in there this morning. IT seems like most nest building happens in the morning. Hard work I guess, then they need the rest of the day to rest and feed.. First off, let me commend you on wanting to help out our native birds. Nuthatches do not often use nest boxes, but an appropriate sized box with a 1 1/8 inch entrance hole is large enough for chickadees and wrens to nest in, but small enough to exclude house sparrows. Also, keep in mind that perches are not only uneccessary, but can do more harm than good as they make it easier for hungry predators to reach into a nestbox and make a snack out of eggs and nestlings. Oh yeah...a few woodpecker species such as flickers and red-bellies will use large nestboxes. If you put one up and fill the entire interior with wood shavings, you'll entice woodpeckers to "excavate" the cavity while preventing house sparrows from claiming it by blocking the cavity.
