My first bird cam Black Capped Chickadees

I set up this camera last year but it was too late in the season. This year I was watching but somehow the Black Capped Chickadees got ahead of me and I just noticed them today and had to scramble to set up the computer. I had left the camera in the box all winter so I was not sure if it was still going to work. The focus is not perfect and I probably should just leave it alone for now but was thinking of adjusting it during the night before there are any eggs. Maybe I should not risk it? What do you think? They are not in there during the night yet.

The chickadee is aware of the camera now, it keeps looking at it. I would just leave it as is (but I know nothing about nesting chickadees).

It's fantastic to watch the bird squirming around to make the nest the right shape and comfortable. I hope you get a successful brood and post pics here.

I've got a pair of Carolina Wrens making a nest in a potted fern today. It's fun to watch them. They're using dried grass clippings from the cutting and weed whacking my son did along our walkway yesterday. They're both hard at work! I know I'd never be able to photograph them though. I've read about how vicious sparrows can be. I hate sparrows. They can empty out my bird feeder in a couple of hours. Throwing most of it to the ground. The neighbors have a lot of opening on their houses that the sparrows are nesting in. When the holes get bigger the starling then get in and drop crap all over my car. A sparrow worked to make the opening bigger this winter with out success. The chickadees must keep a low profile early on. That evening, just before sunset, one of the babies was hangin on the outside of the hole and then flew down to the ground and hide in the bee balm. The next morning it was on the grapevine. The next evening another one left around the same time. Must be a plan to leave then. They are now in some evergreen trees. I've heard the parents warning them when there are bluejays around. Today I saw one of the adult chickadee chasing a sparrow.

I have a small basket hanging on a hook on my covered porch. Usually, Carolina wrens nest in it. But the other day I saw a chickadee fly out of it. I want to take it down and look into it and see if there are eggs. Will that scare her away? It's kinda neat to see a different bird nesting there for a change! I have several old, small baskets and didn't know what to use them for......so I've hung them around for birds.

Really? My 8 year old was trying to train them but she probably moves around too much or is too noisy and they all clear when we are out. We have a trail (driving distance) where the chickadees land on you. They are very cute. Do you have paths nearby where such an occurance happens and they are trained? Are they really just naturally friendly? I think I will pick up some unsalted peanuts for her to take out this week since we have so many at our feeder.

I definitely would not try anything once the eggs are in the nest but I'm just itching to get that focus right. I adjusted for what I thought would be the bottom of the nest material and did not think about a little higher to account for the birds height. Maybe the babies will at least be in focus initially until they grow. They looks like the first layer is a certain type of moss.

The nest was empty last night but tonight a Chickadee is sleeping in the nest. I think a layer of down was added yesterday too. Maybe there are eggs now?

What a nice comfy little room for the chickadee and babies-to-come! You should get a great view of the nestlings and the parents feeding them. I'll bet there are egg(s) there now.
