i live out west in the foothills of the mountains in southwest colorado. Most years the robins get out of here in the fall and winter in Arizona or Texas. But for some reason there have been flocks of robins around the city park and the river trail all winter and a lone male has been around here most of the winter off and on. He was eating crabapples of a neighbors tree till the starlings raided the tree and since then i put out some raisins or dried cranberrys for him.

What a great picture! We had one show up last week; he didn't stay long.....cold as the dickens here, but no snow.

I've seen a lot of robins lately. The cedar waxwings have been in the trees in our neighborhood the past few weeks, for the berries and I've seen a robin or two doing the same thing.

What great pictures. Spring couldn't be far off once the robins return.

harryshoe, that is one of the best Robin pics I have ever seen!! Thanks for sharing!! Robins don't mind snow as long as they can find food, when they finally return to WI they get snowed on an awful lot before Spring actually arrives.

yes, harryshoe, that is a gorgeous picture. Here in southwestern Ohio, the robins are here year round too. I never noticed them hanging so close to the house until this year with our two feet of snow on the ground, the poor robins seemed to be begging for food. I wasn't sure what to give them. My woodpecker food has raisins in it and I think this is what they are eating. I put some strawberries out there, but only a squirrel would eat one. Any other suggestions?

robins are meat eaters in that they eat worms and bugs and insects when they can. i don't put out mealworms here or grubs cause they freeze in minutes and the starlings flock in to get it first. but i do put out shredded beef roast or diced pork chops when they are around. also most any kind of dried fruits especially raisins and cranberrys and dried banana chips or apple chips.

Thanks dklucius. I can get the dried chips at the grocery store and will probably be the easiest way to get the robins some treats. Will they eat a fresh apple if I cut it up?

i picked several buckets of apples this last fall and stored them in a cool pump house. they are getting mealy or soft that i have not used yet but every time i have put any out the jays and magpies and the deer wipe them out fast so i don't know if the robins or bluebirds had a chance even

That's pretty funny. I would be happy feeding those guys too. Just this morning I noticed a doe in my neighbor's backyard. She was here last year and left her baby in the backyard while she was out feeding. Our houses are very close together, but this particular yard doesn't get much (if any) disturbance, so she must feel comfortable leaving baby there during the day. It's been neat to see them eating side by side undisturbed.
