White Redbud vs. Mexican Plum

Hi all,

I'd like to plant a reasonably small, white-flowering tree in the front yard, and I've narrowed my decision down to a White Redbud or a Mexican Plum (but other suggestions are welcome if I'm neglecting another suitable option!). This is my first home and I'm very new to gardening, and was originally considering the Cleveland Pear, but quickly nixed that idea after reading up on it a bit. From what I've read so far, the White Redbud and the Mexican Plum sound very similar to each other in size, appearance, hardiness, culture requirements, etc., so I'm interested in hearing any opinions on advantages of one over the other. Which (if either) would you recommend to a novice gardener in Houston? Anybody know how the growth rates compare? Does one bloom longer than the other? I've read that they each have yellow foliage in the fall.. Any opinions on which one displays the most impressive fall color? Thanks in advance for any info/ advice!
