What we've been doing! Pictures

We recently moved to Azle and finally have good sandy loam to garden in!!!! We started working in the front yard, the post oaks were being smothered by english ivy, asian jasmine and virginia creeper. I have pulled and dug vines until I am literally living on Tylenol Arthritis.

Here's what we started with:

and this is how it looks now:

I edged with giant mondo grass (there was a huge amount lining the driveway that needed thinning) and will cover the whole thing in cardboard and mulch. The plan is to create a woodland garden sitting area. I will cut through the cardboard to plant my desired plants and snip out any offending jasmine and ivy that pops up through the holes. There were many lizards and earth snakes in the tall jasmine and it just had to go! I like little critters, but I *need* to be able to see them before I sit down. .

I had a shady garden in my last yard, so already had many plants, but I've gotten some more ferns, oakleaf hydrangeas and hostas. Once the plants take off, I'll submit more pictures.
