How much castings in container are too much?

Hi all,

I set up a bin in late august with 250 worms (a25 gal. rubbermaid container). In late sept. I added 500 more worms. They seem to being doing well, i constantly see babies under an inch in length crawling around.

But i have noticed that they do not seem to be eating much of the food I put in, mostly boccoli, but a little bit of other stuff. They seem to be mostly eating the newspaper bedding. I have had to add newspaper about eveyr 6 weeks.

There are now several inches of castings in the bottom (mixed with decompose paper - indistinguishable from each other).

I planned to use thebcastings on my veggie garden in the spring. Can i leave them in the container, or do i need to take them out? I assume that they can stay in the container, but want to double check. Also, if i do take them out, will the bacteria and stuff die off, or do the casting just go dormant until more food is addd?

Thanks,
