Have Oyster Plant/Moses in the Cradle seeds, spider plantlets, and tons of basil seedlings (I grow mine indoors all year). Would like to trade for houseplants(sees, cuttings, or seedlings) that require very little light, or any kind of banana, palm, orchid, bamboo.

Common names: I know Purple Heart as an outdoor flowering plant. As to the Plants in questions, group of Tradescantia, larger family of Commelinacae. I believe they include Tradescantia (common Wandering Jew, green tops, purple underneath); also comes in all green & green & white only (no purple). Then there's Setresea pallida: looks like a larger Wandering Jew, all purple (no green) sometimes fussy. Then there's Rhoeo (Moses in the Cradle or Boat), comes in green up top, purple below, also green & white w/ Pink highlights. (except Rhoeo) All of these root easily in water, make lovely hanging baskets as they like to trail when they get longer. Other than Rhoeo, they all take well to pinching to be kept full & lush. There's more varieties I'm sure, but these are the basics that I've seen around commonly in the last 30 yrs. since my college days (when I got to see what other folks wee growing).

Trail, since there's possible rot on the Moses cutting, I'd hold off on the plastic..by doing so, the soil is bound to stay constantly wet, something you don't want happening. Yep, I agree, the Moses (Rhoeo) soil should dry out. I have both types of Moses, the green w/purple and variegated, yet I feel the variegated is more difficult caring for. Give it plenty of light, and let soil dry before watering. Until it is stablized, I wouldn't apply fertilizer..If you use Superthrive, apply that instead. Variegated Moses (Oyster Plants) are beautiful plants,..they are slower growers than their non-variegated cousins and require a bit more work. Hi Patti, Your Tradescantia is suffering from lack of direct sunlight. It is a sun-lover. Artificial light will help a bit, but not much. Fertilizing at this point will only contribute to more legginess. My guess is that you have also put it in a pot that is too large and has too much soil. That is a recipe for inadvertent overwatering. When rooting cuttings, it is best to put multiple cuttings in the same pot so you will have a fuller plant. It is also important to use the SMALLEST pot possible. Eventually your plant will need a larger pot, but not until it has filled the small pot with roots. It's like children's shoes - step them up as needed rather than anticipating what they will need as adults.
