STINKY!!! bin question

growsveges

I've read the books. I've read the forums, and I still haven't gotten this figured out.

I've had my #1 pound of worms in an 18 gal rubbermaid for a month now. It has been doing so well; going through about 3 pounds of food per week. Today I checked the bottom layer and it was wet and STINKY. The worms all seem okay, although some at the bottom were a little slow.

I took it all out and layered it with dry shredded newspaper to absorb the moisture.

Questions...

Will the stink go away, or do I have to separate the worms and start over?

To prevent this in the future...

How do I keep the bottom from getting too wet? If I keep fluffing it with the paper, how will I get finished vermicompost or do you all just use it mixed up? I was trying not to bother the worms too much also by constantly turning everything.

Thanks
