Toronado 3800, I came across an example that might serve as an example of the divergence you are looking for. It is from a text, The Origin of Adaptations by Verne Grant published in 1963. That is when I was in grad school taking courses in evolution. Anyhow Grant sites studies done by G. Turesson in 1922. In this work Turesson found what he called races of plants growing on a island (Oeland) off the southern coast of Sweden. The island is made up largely of limestone and water retention is minimal so plants there are subject to drought conditions much of the time. Several mainland species: Atriplex campestris, Leontodon autumnalis, Rumex acetosella, Silene maritima, and Allium schoenoprasum all had representative "races" on the island. In each case the island populations had developed characteristics which made them more drought tolerant such as prostrate or dwarf growth habit, small narrow depressed thick-walled leaves. The explanation was that natural selection favored these parallel adaptations in the island conditions.

i think it would be interesting to see how the research is being conducted and exactly what they're doing. for instance, it seems like if they were to use a big greenhouse/conservatory and monitor the bees, they might be able to find out what's happening to the ones not returning to the hive? no one seems to know if they're just not returning or if it's because they're actually dying. i'm sure most conservatories are too small to really be able to do this, though... but it was just a thought i had. of course, i also know jack about bees! :)

Okwriter-She was talking and laughing with the woman in front of me so I don't think she was having a bad day! Maybe I wasn't feeling well or had just gotten some bad news,but that wouldn't excuse rudeness either!LOL Maybe she thought since I was in a scooter I was better able to wait longer,I don't know. Many times I let others go in front of me in the checkout line.I'm usually not in that big of a hurry when I'm in Wal-Mart and I don't mind letting someone ahead of me,especially an older person or someone with only a couple of items or a mother with cranky kids! BUT,this woman's husband told her before she walked up there that I was ahead of her.He even pointed to me and she looked at me! I was as close to the woman ahead of me as I could get without running over her and as close to the counter as I could get in the scooter.I think anyone would have realized I was next in line,or at least ASKED if I was! The fact that she baltantly tried to push ahead of me was what did it for me.Then to act as though I was the one in the wrong was the final straw.Under other circumstances,I may have let her go ahead of me but I wasn't about to let her get away with it!

baskets. baskets of books look nice under chairs, on the edge of steps, under the dining room table (as long as the table is wide enough to allow foot room-mine's square) in unfilled corners, beside the rocker, under the cat, covered with a pillow and serving as a hassock...there's no end to the possibilities. And my eternal favorite, which I posted here before-narrow depth, full bookshelves along exterior exposed walls are actually good insulation and SHOULD be worthy of an energy-use-reduction tax credit. The hard thing about culling is that after I work so hard to acquire "the entire set" of an author, like Thirkell, J.J. Marric or the Grace Harlow, College Girl series written in 1920s, or a comprehensive nonfiction set of resources-Tudor England, for instance-so I can't then give them away after all the searching and $$$! So the paperbacks are the only thing with which I can part on a regular basis. Paperbackswap has helped me narrow down the collection by 10-as I've mailed 10 more than I've received...but those credits do beckon...My books are listed in the will-heirs have first choice, then the library.
