The ones left behind??

Hi,

It's nice to be back on this forum, after a few years of moving and other interesting... events. I have two worm bins, one at home, and one at school (a Can of Worms, and Worm Factory, I think the second name is). Both are ready for the bottom tray to be harvested, and the question again comes up for me: What about the worms and coccoons left behind?? In the summer, I simply distribute the contents around the bases of plants in my garden. But in the winter:

1. I'm not supposed to feed my plants (indoor) as much this time of year.

2. I wonder if I'm killing off any worms, hatched or unhatched, if I do add them.

I saw the awesome slides on photo bucket (got the link from this forum), but that person says to just dump the harvested vermicompost into a ventilated bin. Won't the worms left behind die of starvation??

No, I have no theoretical problem with digging in with my hands and picking out the stragglers; it's a time issue. Between class and family, it's at an absolute premium.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this!
