You did the right thing. Do not reward rudeness. It would have been nice if the lady ahead of the cutter had explained to the pharmacist that you were next as she departed. I have done that.

I had something similar happen on Sunday afternoon. This is not the 1st time I've kindly explained to someone I was next in line and every single time I've gotten the same haughty response you did Lilliepad.
I think parts of our society have learned to respond in this negative way whenever they've been "caught out" being in the wrong. Rather than act gracious, they get extremely defensive and treat the one mentioning it as if you're the BIATCH. Crazy. Forbid we should ever be in the wrong!

WHY can't people understand that folks who depend on crutches, walkers, scooters, etc. have enough difficulties (and often PAIN) without someone adding to their problems by being inconsiderate? They seem to believe their time is more valuable than others, ya' know, the same healthy, mobile ones, who take up handicap parking spaces "just for a few minutes." Arrgh!

I worked in the health field for 30+ years ..I did insurance billing ...I was NOT the one that badgered you for payment, I was the one who tried to HELP you! (I "wrote off/adjusted" balances daily) My thinking....I will be in this position one day...and I hope there will be someone like me! Maybe I am dreaming!

This weekend, DH, kids and I went to Sacramento to celebrate his parent's 40th and stayed at a nice hotel. We checked in and with luggage and a group of people, waited for the elevator to open for us all. I was in front. From the opposite hallway, a group of girls walked up and were all chatty and cute and when the doors opened I walked into the elevator thinking DH and my kids were right behind. I turned around to see all these girls cutting in front of EVERYONE to get in behind me. I said, "HOLD IT!" and gently pushed them out and beckoned for everyone else to come in except them. I said, "You need to wait your turn, girls. You should know better!" At least they had the courtesy to look embarrassed. I couldn't believe it. I chalk it up to Godlessness. Call me crazy, but I truly believe it. JMHO.

To answer your ???..yes,in my opinion,rude is putting it mildly.

Myself,I think I would have done my darnedest to run into the meathead cutter....I know myself,I have had just about enough of inconsiderate,rude,holier than thou individuals.

Oh, I agree completely. People can be so rude. Most of the time they are just being thoughtless and don't realize that they are being rude. But deliberate rudeness is something I cannot and will not tolerate. Being polite or thoughtful costs nothing. I don't know how many times I have held a door for someone and they breeze right through and say nothing. Then I usually say, "You're welcome" - some will realize that they sould have said Thank you and say it, some at least will look sheepish, but there are those who either keep on going or look at me like I have 6 heads!

That woman was so rude! Heck, if you're in a scooter you're alread disabled. People should give YOU a break. I know if I'm in a line and a person with a crutch or a scooter or scooter is there, I would let him/her go ahead of me. That person already has plenty of problems. I have my own health issues, but at least I can walk and stand comfortably. My new peeve is this-it happened to me about a week ago. A woman and her pre-teen daughter go up to the deli counter with their shopping cart. The woman draws a number out of the ticket machine, then hands it to the daughter "You wait here. I'll be back". Then she goes off to shop while the kid waits in the deli area. Well, maybe more inventive than irritating, but you get my drift. Some people will do anything to avoid waiting in line. . .

Something similar happened to me BUT, I was being the nice one and still got chewed out. In line at the pharmacy in Walgreens, I noticed it was packed with people sitting waiting for their prescriptions. I was about 4th in line standing up. As I approached the counter (my turn), a man stood up from his seat and jumped down my throat that he was next. I noticed he had a cane, walked poorly and probably couldn't stand in line. I said "Oh, I'm sorry sir, I didn't know. You didn't mention anything when you saw me get in line. I assumed all of you people sitting down are waiting for your meds to be ready. Please go on ahead of me then." Well, he just continued ripping me a new one. Called me all kinds of names and kept yelling at the top of his lungs. The pharmacist had to come out and defuse the man. He was obviously not 'right'. I also have a short fuse for rudeness and will usually go to bat for anyone but this was truly uncalled for. Yes, though, I see rudeness in some way or another every day.

Yes, that was rude. But perhaps she didn't feel well since she was in line picking up a prescription. Or perhaps she just learned she has something more than just a passing illness. It doesn't excuse what she did, but it's something to consider.

DH does our shopping, but when I am out running errands, I often offer to let people cut in front of me if I'm not in a hurry.

There are people who think that if they can get away with it, then everything is fine. Next time maybe she won't try to take advantage. Calling her on it was the right thing to do for yourself and for the next person in line with this oaf.

As an 'oldtimer' I have noticed that a lot of people go around with a sense of entitlement (sp?) They are so used to geting what they want when they want it. Sad.
I do what Barbara3 said, if I let someone go ahead of me in a checkout line, when they have fewer things than I have in my cart. If they don't say anything, I say, "your welcome" someimes they still don't say anything other times they say, or mumble "Thank you" But one time when I said Your welcome to a young gal I let go ahead of me, she looked at me and said "F%@*k you. All I could say is "There goes a classy person" LOL Dottie

Common courtesy seems to be pretty uncommon these days. No one says pardon me, thank you......and making eye contact is totally out of the question. Sad.

I often hold the door for the person behind me, or when I am exiting and someone else is entering a building. And if they do not say Thank you I'm just b!tchy enough to smile and say You're Welcome!

There is really no excuse for rudeness and I am so sorry that you experienced it.

I still see a lot of people who are polite when I'm out and about.

The rudest people I come into contact with are other parents particularly other moms. Gee, I wonder where kids get their sense of entitlement.

Dotmom, that`s happened to me too. I just fix them a stare and say, `Your mother must be so proud!` and you`d be surprised how many, especially men, just hang their heads in shame.

I was pulling into a gas station and a woman was just leaving the window after paying for her gas. She had to cross in front of my still-moving-slowly car. We made eye contact and I gave her a little 'go ahead' wave. She shouted at the top of her lungs "I'M HANDICAPPED!". She had no crutches, I didn't see her limp. Guess she mistook my 'I won't run you over' wave for a 'MOVE your fat a$$!' wave.

If I'm in the car and see another wanting to pull out of a driveway or side street, I once again give my little 'go ahead' wave. Nearly half the time I don't get the 'thank you' wave in return, which makes me a little mad at myself for letting them out. One of my own character flaws, I suppose.....

I used to encounter lots of rude folks in CA but folks in Iowa are so polite. It is not crowded here. A couple of weeks ago I was pushing my shopping cart out to my car and a young man came flying through the parking lot in his car. He parked right next to me. I was thinking about chewing him out for driving so fast but he jumped out of his car and asked if I needed a hand with the groceries. He put all my groceries into the back of my truck for me.

I was in the drugstore downtown here one day. It's not set up very well and the line usually ends up going down one of the aisles. One line usually forms for the 2-3 cashiers that are there. Well one day, a man in his late 20s, early 30s just walks up to the next open cashier ahead of the entire line. Of course, he was told about his transgression by the crowd and he went to the end of the line.

I'm sure he didn't see the line or understood how it worked so all he really had to say was that he was sorry and didn't see the line but instead he stood there making excuses and snide comments to anyone who would listen. I didn't think he was a jerk when he cut ahead of the line but I sure did by the time I left that store.

Just had this same conversation yesterday with my mom. She sort of mentioned that it could be people migrating and bringing their nasty ways. To an extent I said, but the locals are the grumpy ones. And they're very spoiled nowadays. Spoiled people = unhappiness = rudeness.

Sometimes you have to be rude back just to show them how stupid they're being.

Jannie, I didn't understand why you were irritated that the mom in the deli had her kids wait in line. They still had a ticket and waited their turn, didn't they? Or did they cut in front of you? If I'm lucky enough to have my DH come with me(extremely rare), I stand in the deli line while he goes and gets bananas. I'm STILL in line; I haven't cut in front of anyone.

Rudeness has something to do with where and how you live. When we moved to Texas we had heard about the friendliness of Texans, how considerate they were, and we spent 10 years in town looking for these nice Texans. When we moved to the country, where people have more space, depend on each other out of necessity, and everyone knows your relatives, we found those nice, considerate Texans. Anonymity leads to rudeness, I believe.

Okwriter-She was talking and laughing with the woman in front of me so I don't think she was having a bad day! Maybe I wasn't feeling well or had just gotten some bad news,but that wouldn't excuse rudeness either!LOL Maybe she thought since I was in a scooter I was better able to wait longer,I don't know.
Many times I let others go in front of me in the checkout line.I'm usually not in that big of a hurry when I'm in Wal-Mart and I don't mind letting someone ahead of me,especially an older person or someone with only a couple of items or a mother with cranky kids! BUT,this woman's husband told her before she walked up there that I was ahead of her.He even pointed to me and she looked at me! I was as close to the woman ahead of me as I could get without running over her and as close to the counter as I could get in the scooter.I think anyone would have realized I was next in line,or at least ASKED if I was! The fact that she baltantly tried to push ahead of me was what did it for me.Then to act as though I was the one in the wrong was the final straw.Under other circumstances,I may have let her go ahead of me but I wasn't about to let her get away with it!
