Another broken tile

oh my. that is one of the poorest jobs I've seen on here lately.

Questions 1,2 and 3.

answer, "No, No, and No "

grout application and clean-up is horrendous,

the cutting of the marble tile on the edges, equally horrendous (did he use a butter knife?)

What is this??? the tile sticking out? back up so I get some context on what I'm looking at.

again, the grout haze is horrible, and rather than cutting the hext tiles on the edge, he just left them and filled in w/grout? OMG.

This other longer tile, is that supposed to be an edge tile? you have a rough cut/unfinished edge showing.

I'm afraid to ask for more pictures, but please, indulge me.

any progress pics of how the walls were done? waterproofing?

show the entire shower or whatever I'm looking at.

What kind of price were you charged for this, and more importantly, have you paid in full yet? (please say no)

It’s bad. Very, very bad. Is this a shower? A floor?

"Lazy" ? It's not lazy........it was done by a total HACK. Add to that if that is a shower, a tub/shower combo.....whatever it is? The tile is probably the small issue, and the big issue?! It's probably going to leak like a sieve.

All I can tell you is I have hex tile on my shower floor (installed last year) and it doesn't look like that. :-(

Did you take any pics when he was doing the prep work and the waterproofing? What did he use to waterproof the walls and the floor?

@cpartist I didn't think to take any pictures. He used orange Schluter membrane stuff. I am not sure the size

@User none of that. It is my contractor's tile guy so I didn't know to do all this research

My shower looks to be about the same size as yours. There is oversized subway on the walls. The hex tile is 2" and it is porcelain. This is a picture of where the wall meets the floor. All of the edges are uniform meaning they all look the same.

So let me touch on the hex tile floor that he did.

Normally, with a good tile person, the floor is done first, and then the wall tile and the curb tile is laid down on top of it. One, it hides any of the jagged cuts, and two, it offers a bit more waterproofing since the water hits the wall tile instead of flowing down into the grout joint. grout is not waterproof.

It looks like he put the actual wall tiles down onto the tile in the back corner, but up front here w/the curb tile is, he did not. (or, he may have come up short) Looks like he would have had to make tiny little cuts to fill this joint along this outer edge. (See Pic 2)

He would have had to cut a bunch of half tiles and place those one by one up against this curb. Takes a lot of time. He prob didn't want to do it.

Looks like the floor pan is just a half of an inch too wide for this tile layout. He was supposed to make small cuts to fill in those spaces.

Have him remove the tile up the curb, cut some small marble pieces to fit in there, and lay the curb tile back on top of the floor.

Here's mine so you can see what I'm talking about. the left portion is the curb. you can see where the small cuts were made up against the subway tile.

Looking at this picture, it's not a horrible job from this angle.

the layout looks to be ok. Up close, I do have issues w/the grout clean up, the pitting, and the overall messy look.

with this type of wavy, handmade-look tile, the grout has to be wiped up carefully since the joints are uneven. These 'holes', need to be packed w/more grout. water will find it's way through there

Have him go back and clean up overpacked grout joints and fill in all of these holes, wipe clean. Ditto all of the corners and all of the haze.

The grout clean up on the marble tile is also a poor job. needs to be rewashed.

also, grout should not be done in the vertical corners or any change of plane. should be a 100% silicone caulk in the same color as the grout. this is important in the joint between floor tile and wall tile.

Do not make any final payments until all of this is done or until you're happy.

There are not a lot of things that leave me speechless but this is one of them. I have opened and closed my mouth a dozen times while looking at these photos and the only thing I can come up with is this is a gut job. The heck with the tile which is bad enough, The curb doesnt even look like its been waterproofed. This is a disaster now but just wait until you've been using it for 6 monthhs to a year. I am going to leave this to @Beth H. : You will get solid advice from her. Best of luck getting this done properly. Guess I had something to say after all.

Design, it looks like they used th Schluter waterproofing system. I'm not familiar with it.

Schluter on the curb. Curb just has not been capped yet. Some sort of solid surfacing, I presume, is intended for the curb.

Why isn't the Schluter installed over the top of the curb?

Have a custom solid surface curb cap fabricated and installed with drop faces that cover the front and back tile please with a drip slot detail on the inside.

I am speechless and you better talk to your GC before one more thing is done . IMO so bad it needs a rip out and a new tiler who actully undestands how to install and waterproof a shower .
