VEGGIES AND HERBS IN VOLUME! * 5 GARDENER LIMIT!!!

Are you already perusing the veggie seed racks, dreaming of voluptuous greens for your salad and wonderful herbs to add just the right flavor to some new dish you want to try? Only have enough money to buy so many seeds? Have a bunch left over but are still viable? This is the swap for you! Everyone will get the same package back, less the varieties they sent in! (This is alot like holiday cookie swaps, but better for your health!)

1) Veggies and Herbs only! (edible flowers OK, but send only 1 variety of those please!)

2) Please include as much info as possible including who the commercial grower is. Enough info to get started, and enough info for the rest of us to get more educated if need be.

3) Commercial OR Homegrown seed WELCOME! Seal the packs well!

4)**This is the important part!!!!*** 5 PACKS OF EACH VARIETY REQUIRED (ie:5 packs of Cherokee Tomato or 5 packs of Thai Basil etc.)

5) **Another important part!!!*** 10 VARITY MINIMUM!!! We all will end up with a WONDERFUL assortment of things to try!

6)Unlimited kinds can be sent in, AS LONG AS THERE IS 5 OF EACH!!! (ie:if you send in 14 different kinds of seeds - you will be sending 70 PACKS (14 kinds x 5 packs each))

5)Send in bubble mailer, with enough postage for the return trip, PLUS own label with your addy as the sendee and my address as the sender!

6) Include your gardenweb name, please for the love of pete. Thank you !

8)Packages are due January 31st! I will put them in the mail for return trip by February 5th (barring unforeseen trips to the ER with some family member!) If I have EVERYONES package sooner, I will mail them out SOONER!

9) 5 person limit, but I will keep a list of alternates just in case!

7)**Also important.....

Please list here the kind of seed that you are sending in...that way we won't have duplicates!!!!!!! (My list is below) I will email you my addy after you respond on this thread!

8)You will know by what you're getting by looking at the list here, and you might more or less total packs back depending on how much you send in.

9) Include enough seed for the variety to germinate and be really tried! IE: 5-10 of large seed, 20-30 medium seed, good pinch of tiny seed.

My total packet bet is 7979.43 by the law of average, should be right on the button. Now while we wait can we talk about my poor pumpkin seeds that were so fresh when I sent them, I mean I was still turning them every hour in the sun coming thru my french doors,before bagging them. Anyway, today, to my horror, the Musque de Provence seeds were moldy green!!!!I did not figure tha tthe time from when I packed them and the time we will get our seeds back would be enough to mold them, as I din't want to treat them with chemicals or bleach but maybe I should have!!! Looked on line for answers , someone mentioned rinsing the seeds in hydrogen peroxide before drying them. I panicked and use what was close at hand , put some bleach in water and filled the little baggie with it and slooshed them around until they cleaned up a bit, then i rinsed them further with my fingers, and planted them in a peat pot to see about germination. I don't know what to tell you. It's really sad to loose these, they were beautiful pumpkins, of the brightest orange flesh. If they are really lost then I will have to make sure mine grows and distribute the seeds again thru another swap.I am so sorry about that, thought i was doing the seeds a favor by not using bleach or other chemicals...and look what happened. Hi, folks! My opinion on a typical pack of seeds would be 20-25, and fewer for large, rare or expensive seeds. Many times tomato, pepper, and eggplant seeds are more like 12-15 seeds. Counting out poppy or foxglove seeds is a pain, but a tiny pinch is about 40-50, so I do that. Some people measure out 1/8 teaspoons or 1/4 teaspoons of tiny seeds. I don't have a 1/8t spoon, and 1/4t is a large proportion of my seeds. If you're agonizing over whether or not to send in just a few of a seed, you can always ask the recipient, or you can use the gardenweb list search. Search for people who also have that seed, and read the list for people in this swap. If a couple of us have it, you don't need to worry about dividing up your small supply. You find the Search Lists function by clicking at the bottom of the page on Member Pages, and then choose Search Members' Exchange Lists. That is also a way to figure out who to send to, by searching for people looking for a seed you have. However, sometimes someone will type "No datura, please" but the computer just sees that "datura" is in the wants area. So this search can get you started, but you should still personally check. :) GARLIC: I'd love to try some different hardnecks! Cloves or even bulbils. Cloves are big--should we plan to send somewhat roomy envelopes and extra postage money to pay for getting the cloves to us? I grow two hardneck types and can offer bulbils, unfortunately I don't know the names. On seems to be a porcelain, one a rocambole. (One has a ton of tiny bulbils, one has larger bulbils, so please correct me if you think I'm wrong). You plant the bulbils at the same time as big garlic, and then dig it up the next year when it yellows the right amount. Then you replant it in fall, unless you want to eat the baby garlic. In my reading, it seems pretty definite that if you leave garlic in the ground without digging and replanting, it just splits into smaller bulbs and is less and less what you intended when you planted it. So, now that I've had a chance to go through all the packs, I can announce that we have a third winner, Treasa! Treasa gets a prize for most generous, as she sent in many commercial packs! Super sweet of you, Treasa. I know that everyone will be thankful for the great commercial packs. Now for a bit of business: I was able to put together 5 bonus pack for everyone, so whether you sent 12 or 100 packs, you'll be getting an extra 5. Shawn, Dawn, Treasa part of your prize includes live plants, so please be sure to attend to your packs as soon as they arrive. I do hope the plants travel well. medium seeds 20ish
small/tiny - good pinch

Trusting ya'll to use your good judgement. We're not planting the back 40, but we want enough to sow and germinate enough to have a good try.

we have 32 kinds of different yummy things to try so far! We have room for 3 other lists from gardeners want in on this!

Well I was stupid, I counted myself.

We do need two more!! My excuse is I have been awake for 22 hours! I had too stay up the last four nights working on a paper, now I'm trying to stay up to get back on track.

For the purposes of this swap...
If you can eat the gourd (such as red warty thing) then yes. If it's purely ornamental, then no.

it is unknown to me if you can or can not eat Swan gourd. I will sub Sunflower seeds for the gourd. How does it work if I want to beable to recieve all 74 packs? Do I add more items?

Ok, I got the address

All the seeds are ready to go and divided into 5 larger bags.

Will go in the mail in the next couple days.

In the "bonus" pack is a few seeds of Hillbilly Potato Leaf Tomato plus some Tomatoes and Melons from Ukraine and a couple new Tomatoes from Wild Boar Farms in Vacaville, California.
