Name That Rose!

please ID coral pink rose

This is a rose left by the previous owner. The house is pretty new, and I think the roses were probably planted about 2004-05. They were planted way too close together, a variety of types; the ones with tags are all J&P roses. I'm guessing these people were not rose gardeners and picked up all the plants at Lowes or Home Depot at once.

This one has lovely coral pink blossoms, about 3" across. The leaves are about 1" long, medium to dark green, with new growth burgundy. The leaves retain some burgundy shading on the underside. Stems are green (though it's a very small bush at this point). Flowers are borne singly. The thorns are large and yellow, fairly straight. The stipules are light green with red lines and small. The sepals are pointed. The bush does not form hips to speak of. Any thoughts?

I believe that your rose is a Jackson Perkins rose called Mother's Rose. I grow it and your photo and description matches it almost perfectly.

Thanks! The photos look more of a bluish pink than mine, but I know that can vary. Is the new growth on yours a really deep red, stems and all? J&P sounds like a good possibility...

Westerland seems to fit your requirements! It's described as a "shrub/climber" although mine grows as a tall, upright shrub to about 5' (I trim it quite heavily in the spring so it would grow taller if I let it). It stays upright - the canes are not lax at all. The flowers are large, double and bright apricot/orange - very eye-catching. It doesn't seem to be bothered by any disease problems here and blackspot is a big problem here where it's hot and humid. It's listed as being hardy to zone 5. Incredibly, I don't have a picture of it but you can look it up on Helpmefind. I also have Easy Living, which I like very much although mine is a small shrub. Heaven on Earth is a shrub that produces beautiful huge pastel apricot blooms. Perhaps my favorite in an orange/apricot color is Pat Austin, which does very well here.

Well, I don't know. I looked at both those roses on Help Me Find and I guess it could be. Maybe there was something about the way this GW member grew this rose or pruned it that gave it a little different look to it. And the color of the rose on the arbor seems a little coral to me, but that could just be the camera or the light. Thanks for the help. :-)

thanks guys. I am leaningo towards Grande Dame as well. Mine does have the little white stripes on some of the petals like the Grande Dame, floppy and fragrance. @ Iris gal, mine doesn't have a very strong fragrance but since this is it's first year it's understandable. I don't have any space in the front yard -existing beds that recieves 8 hours of sun. I have to make one in the backyard so it can get all day sun. I have a deer problem, I am afraid it will eat in one visit. Deer is afraid to come in the front yard. Currently this is under a tree that only received 3 to 4 hours of sun.

My Mother's Rose is much more coral with cherry pink edges than the ones on HMF. The color depends on the temperature. There is no bluish tones on mine either. Colors are deeper in the spring and fall. Unfortunately, I don't have a photo of my own to share.

Here are some photos of new growth that I just took today. This is not brand new and has been growing a while so it is starting to green up but the stems, thorns and leaves all start out a deep burgundy color.

There is not much new growth on my roses right now because my weather is starting to cool down here. We even had a light frost a couple of nights ago. It won't be long before I have to put my gardens to bed for the winter.
